So what’s been happening in the wake of the Large Hadron Collider’s general failure to produce exotic physics stuff?

That could have rescued a bunch of failed materialist ideas …

According to Peter Woit at Not Even Wrong (November 3, 2011),

Now that the LHC has turned out to be dud, producing no black holes or extra dimensions, the latest news is that physicists are planning a new machine, “to follow in the footsteps of the Large Hadron Collider”. This one will be based on “A laser powerful enough to tear apart the fabric of space”, able to “rip a hole in spacetime”, and it will do this much more cheaply than the LHC ($1.6 billion).

You know, it’s one thing to believe that there is a sea route to China – there could be one. (Except, um, there was this mere, pointless detail of the Americas in between.) Isn’t it another thing to believe in all this other stuff with no substantive evidence?

Whether they will succeed in doing this or not, I have no idea, but I have no problem with them giving it a try. However, I don’t think they’ll ever find what they want to find, because I believe they are trying to find evidence for a process that never actually happened. They are scientists though and that is what scientists do – propose a theory and then see if it matches reality - so I can’t fault them for trying. However, I wish they would teach their various hypotheses in school openly and honestly instead of as 100% factual. They DON"T have things worked out. They don't even know if there ever really was a "Big Bang" as none of the proposed current models can account for all of the observations. But these people choose to remain within the comforting walls of materialism, so by definition they "KNOW" that somehow it all happened by natural processes. However, this is an abuse of the meaning of the word "know". They should say, based on their worldview, they "think" or "believe", or "assume" that it all happened by natural processes, but this is their a priori assumption and it cannot be proven. I guess they are afraid to truly admit what the problems and puzzles are that still exist in their evolutionary scenarios - probably because it would expose the weaknesses of their theory. If they did that, I guess they are worried that they would have even more trouble than they do now in getting people to believe in their various hypotheses.tjguy

As to:
“A laser powerful enough to tear apart the fabric of space”, able to “rip a hole in spacetime”
And exactly what is their precedence for believing that this is even possible for lasers? Black holes, which 'rip a hole in spacetime' eat quasars, which have far, far, more energy than any puny laser we can construct, for breakfast.
Space-Time of a Black hole http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0VOn9r4dq8
Since harnessing brute energy to 'rip a hole in space-time' seems like a extremely futile effort, perhaps they would care to look at the only other known instance, where ripping a hole in space-time has occurred before, to ascertain what may be needed to 'rip a hole in spacetime': notes:
How the Power of Intention Alters Matter - Dr. William A. Tiller Excerpt: "Most people think that the matter is empty, but for internal self consistency of quantum mechanics and relativity theory, there is required to be the equivalent of 10 to 94 grams of mass energy, each gram being E=MC2 kind of energy. Now, that's a huge number, but what does it mean practically? Practically, if I can assume that the universe is flat, and more and more astronomical data is showing that it's pretty darn flat, if I can assume that, then if I take the volume or take the vacuum within a single hydrogen atom, that's about 10 to the minus 23 cubic centimeters. If I take that amount of vacuum and I take the latent energy in that, there is a trillion times more energy there than in all of the mass of all of the stars and all of the planets out to 20 billion light-years. That's big, that's big. And if consciousness allows you to control even a small fraction of that, creating a big bang is no problem." - Dr. William Tiller - has been a professor at Stanford U. in the Department of materials science & Engineering http://www.beyondtheordinary.net/williamtiller.shtml Centrality of Each Individual Observer In The Universe and Christ’s Very Plausible Reconciliation Of General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics https://docs.google.com/document/d/17SDgYPHPcrl1XX39EXhaQzk7M0zmANKdYIetpZ-WB5Y/edit?hl=en_US The Center Of The Universe Is Life - General Relativity, Quantum Mechanics, Entropy and The Shroud Of Turin - video http://www.metacafe.com/w/5070355 Turin Shroud Enters 3D Age - Pictures, Articles and Videos https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1gDY4CJkoFedewMG94gdUk1Z1jexestdy5fh87RwWAfg THE EVENT HORIZON (Space-Time Singularity) OF THE SHROUD OF TURIN. - Isabel Piczek - Particle Physicist Excerpt: We have stated before that the images on the Shroud firmly indicate the total absence of Gravity. Yet they also firmly indicate the presence of the Event Horizon. These two seemingly contradict each other and they necessitate the past presence of something more powerful than Gravity that had the capacity to solve the above paradox. http://shroud3d.com/findings/isabel-piczek-image-formation A Quantum Hologram of Christ's Resurrection? by Chuck Missler Excerpt: “You can read the science of the Shroud, such as total lack of gravity, lack of entropy (without gravitational collapse), no time, no space—it conforms to no known law of physics.” The phenomenon of the image brings us to a true event horizon, a moment when all of the laws of physics change drastically. Dame Piczek created a one-fourth size sculpture of the man in the Shroud. When viewed from the side, it appears as if the man is suspended in mid air (see graphic, below), indicating that the image defies previously accepted science. The phenomenon of the image brings us to a true event horizon, a moment when all of the laws of physics change drastically. http://www.khouse.org/articles/2008/847 Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and upon earth."

Ok....now that's the stuff of doomsday predictions! But like they said in "the Big Bang Theory" sitcom when talking about the LHC: "no guts no glory". . . . Right?! :-SMedsRex

A laser that rips apart the fabric of spacetime? Are they trying to give Cobra Commander a target for his ruthless terrorist organization!? Seriously though... this has bad idea written all over it.Sonfaro
