Once again the “settled science” of climate change turns out to be far from settled.  See here.

However, there is a high probability that the consequences of the skeptics being wrong would be disastrous for the human race, and once we found out, irreversible.
It is precisely this that I find to be the least supported among the many assertions/assumptions made. Historically, warmer would appear to be better. In addition, raised CO2 levels would seem to be quite friendly to plant growth. Metathesiophobia is the default position of the alarmists, but I've seen little to warrant it.Phinehas

Report: Global warming didn't cause big US drought (Update) - April 11, 2013 Excerpt: A new federal science report looking at last year's Midwestern drought says it was a freak of nature that wasn't caused by man-made global warming. The 50-page drought task force report written by dozens of scientists from five different federal agencies looked into why forecasters didn't see the more than $12 billion drought coming. The researchers concluded that it was so unusual and unpredictable that it couldn't have been forecast.,,, "This is one of those events that comes along once every couple hundreds of years," said lead author Martin Hoerling, a research meteorologist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. "Climate change was not a significant part, if any, of the event.",,, http://phys.org/news/2013-04-global-didnt-big-drought.htmlbornagain77

"...The short period of time, only 10 years in which the increasing temperature has leveled, really doesn't tell us very much other than the fact that temperatures may still be rising but just not as fast as they were before," said Elgie Holstein, the senior director for strategic planning at the Environmental Defense Fund...
OK, so has it leveled off, or is it still rising? Or does he/she have to admit that it has leveled off, while leaving us with the distinct impression that it is still rising? Yeah.EDTA

It' complex. This article addresses that complexity to some degree. The point is, we don't really know for sure one way or the other. However, there is a high probability that the consequences of the skeptics being wrong would be disastrous for the human race, and once we found out, irreversible. It seems to me to be simple common sense not to go fooling around with this, particularly when the remedies (sustainable energy) are very good ideas in any case. Don't you skeptics who want us to ignore GW have any children and grandchildren? Aren't you at all concerned about the world we might be leaving them? This isn't just about who's right or wrong here. There are some very serious possible consequences at stake, and it's our descendants who will reap whatever it is that we are now sowing.Bruce David

KN @ 9, I don't know why you are trying to inject materialism into this thread. However, if by "materialists" you mean "climate alarmists," no, it does not seem like they understand that weather and climate are not the same thing. If you have not noted that the climate alarmists jump on numerous isolated weather phenomena (tornados, hurricanes) and assure everyone they are evidence of climate change, then you have not been paying attention. But to your broader point, yes the fact that Denver experienced record low temperatures this week does not speak to the trend. But to my even broader point – the point of the OP – the evidence suggests that there is a trend, and it is not global warming.Barry Arrington

The GW scientists move just like the materialist. When the evidence does not support the theory, they shift a little and establish the science as settled once again.

Guys, it's "a new normal of extremes" now. Duh. I swear, politicized science is an atrocity. The GW scientists move just like the materialist. When the evidence does not support the theory, they shift a little and establish the science as settled once again.Bateman
