Like many writing teachers, I have been asked this question, because students are urged to avoid “anticlimaxes” in their writing.
The classic response is: Saturday the Fourteenth
Strictly speaking, an anticlimax is
an event or experience that causes disappointment because it is less exciting than was expected or because it happens immediately after a much more interesting or exciting event:
Here it is, broad daylight, and Friday the Thirteenth superstitions sound boring as well as stupid.
It’s the “boring” part that concerns the writing teacher.
