Atheists To Put Up Their Own 10 Commandments of Atheism

Atheists in Northern Florida have succeeded in getting permission to put up a a rival monument to a nearby monument to the Ten Commandments. For the first time we will have what will amount to an Atheist Decalogue literally carved in stone. I for one look forward to seeing what is in this decalogue with great anticipation.

It isn’t yet clear what exactly the 10 Atheist laws will be, but whatever they are, it will be very interesting to see whether or not the atheist glitterati (Dawkins, Harris, Dennet, et.al.) sign on. If they don’t, this might be the first instance of denominationalism creeping into the atheistic religion. In any case, at last the core beliefs (or lack thereof) of atheists will be carved in stone for all to see. This will be great fun!

There's already a document that purports to describe atheism and humanism: The Humanist Manifesto (http://www.americanhumanist.org/humanism/Humanist_Manifesto_I) If atheists already have this, why do they need commandments?Barb

JLA is derailing the real issue here: WHY should any such atheist "commandments" be held in any kind of esteem? I can command "Thou shalt lick the soles of my shoes clean every morning" and it make just as much sense and have as much validity as anything the atheist dreams up.OldArmy94

JLAfan2001 as to: "In fact there is very little proof, if any, that the Exodus actually happened. So this gives the atheists a one-up." actually you are completely wrong (again):

Here is a small portion of the video footage showing the coral encrusted remains of Egyptian chariots in the Red Sea at the proposed Nuweiba crossing,,, Seems the Charlton Heston depiction in the movie, 'The Ten Commandments', was not that far off the mark of what really happened after all!

For those unfamiliar with the Caldwells' story this following video is essential viewing. Jim and Penny Caldwell's painstakingly documented explorations deep into the Arabian Peninsula over an 8 year period corroborates in great detail the earlier findings of the late Ron Wyatt - but it goes even further by fleshing out fuzzy areas of the exodus that were left unanswered. Plus it verifies the '40 year wandering' in startling ways;,,

JLAfan - I guess that depends on what constitutes "proof". Its pretty clear you reject the entire Bible as authoritative on any subject, historical or otherwise. So, naturally, you wouldn't take anything mentioned in scripture to be evidence (or proof) of the existence of the 10 commandments. But that doesn't mean it isn't. The very fact that the 10 commandments have been so carefully preserved through the preservation of the Old Testament scriptures is proof of their existence. Perhaps you mean we have no proof that the original stone tablets upon which they were written ever existed. If by that you mean sources outside of biblical texts, then perhaps not. But that doesn't mean the source texts we do have are not accurate with respect to what they report about the 10 commandments. In any case, this is a rabbit trail where this thread is concerned. This thread concerns only the Atheist's 10 commandments finally being carved in stone. I'm not going any further regarding proofs of the Bible. That's irrelevant to this discussion.DonaldM

At least their is physical proof that the atheists 10 commandments exists. There is none that the biblical commandments ever existed. In fact there is very little proof, if any, that the Exodus actually happened. So this gives the atheists a one-up.JLAfan2001
