Evolution: Vast Ignorance and Trifling Understanding

In today’s Kansas City Star, George Gale of the University of Missouri-Kansas City asserts that intelligent design has no long-term future: “[ID theorists] are very good at raising questions in areas of ignorance: ‘You can’t explain this, therefore it’s intelligent design.’ You can’t just put God into our gaps in knowledge.” What I find remarkable about this standing refrain by evolutionists is the presumption that their theory deserves the benefit of the doubt. The implicit image we are expected to buy is of a vast countryside entirely mapped out by Darwinian theory and only a few pockets of resistance yet to be explored. But the opposite is true. If, for instance, the vast countryside is complex molecular machines (which are required for life to exist at all), then this countryside is completely unexplained by Darwinian and materialistic evolutionary theories (read James Shapiro, read Franklin Harold, read Michael Behe, …).

Darwinists want us to think that they have vast understanding and only trifling ignorance when in fact they suffer vast ignorance and trifling understanding.

Sorry. Something about multiple right arrows caused that last comment to cut short. Here's the whole thing. “[ID theorists] are very good at raising questions in areas of ignorance: ‘You can’t explain this, therefore it’s intelligent design.’ You can’t just put God into our gaps in knowledge.” Well gee whiz. Maybe it's because the area of ignorance is such a large target? While I agree you can't just put God into the gaps, it's equally valid that you can't just put Darwin into the gaps either. A gap is a gap. It's a mystery and it remains a mystery until some TESTED hypothesis can fill it with theoretical knowledge. The bottom line remains that that the mechanism of mutation/selection has never been observed or demonstrated to have the power to create novel cell types, tissue types, organs, and body plans. Its creative power remains a huge extrapolation of microevolutionary changes that occur only within the same variety of organisms. A trillion trillion rapidly mutating antibiotic resistant bacteria that have remained bacteria by every conceivable metric stand in stark testimony to mutation/selection's inability to create novel cell types, tissue types, organs, and body plans. Twenty thousand years of artificial selection in dogs for every conceivable unusual trait has not resulted in a single non-canine anatomical feature emerging in the dog family. This also stands in stark testimony of the limits of mutation/selection. One must be wearing blinders to fail to see this. Denial is more than just a river in Egypt. DaveScot
