And anyone who believes in it is a fool.

Further to What makes people altruistic?:

Your news writer is waiting in a blizzard for a ride to provide free help someone whose gene pool unrelated to hers – who simply needs help. Period.

Why is anyone trying to explain it in Darwinian terms?

Help understanding the psychology of Darwin’s followers is appreciated.

The selfish gene is dead? Aww man! It sounded so good and convincing!! There was even a famous book on it and it made for a lot of good stories that people really seemed to eat up. And now you’re tellin’ us it was all wrong? But we were taught it by scientists! Can science really be wrong? Hard to know what to believe these days! Now what we turn to? Maybe the altruistic gene? … but that doesn’t make any evolutionary sense [...]
Wrong. That's what a significant part of the book is actually about - altruism makes perfect evolutionary sense, the book's title notwithstanding.Hangonasec

The selfish gene confirms that we are indeed in a scientific dark age today. Science has been hijacked by fundamentalist nutjobs intent on forcing science to fit their belief system or destroying it so nobody else can have it.
