Are there really researchers out there who spend 20% of their time refuting ID?

Among other things, those people need a time management ambulance:

We can say the same of the modern version of creationist absolutism: “intelligent design” theory, which is having great success with the American public, Tapping the molecular alphabet on the genetic keyboard, God would program DNA mutations for his own supreme ends …

[Note] 3 During a recent colloquium on biology in Paris, I have heard with dread all American colleagues, but fortunately only them (for the moment), lost 20 percent of their time and brain power combat intelligent design theory, so much the stakes have become drastically central, even for the financing of research, in this country.

Look, it’s true that the universe shows evidence of intelligent design but nobody is trying to interfere with those researchers just plodding about their job. They’re freaking themselves out to no purpose.

They’re freaking out because they’re realizing that the frontline is getting closer to the point where they won’t be able to hide that they are on the losing side of history.

When the leaders of the third Reich were hiding in their bunker in April 75 years ago, they could hear the bombs outside getting louder, but still were in denial.
The academic establishment seems going through a similar situation. The penny hasn’t dropped yet.
Almost every new research discovery is bringing bad news for them, but they keep hoping that something miraculous will happen and reverse the trend.
    Poor things. Really pathetic.

That’s the money quote, literally and figuratively. ID is starting to threaten grants. Good news!

But “God programs mutations”????? I’ve been around ID for 40 years and I’ve never heard that way of thinking. It’s intelligent DESIGN, not intelligent gamma rays.

Here is an article I see today criticizing ID. It does not look persuasive. I think this sort of thing has been covered extensively here already. Perhaps one of you with a scientific background might take a look. https://phys.org/news/2020-05-evolutionary-flaws-theory-intelligent.amp
