Here, at Skeptiko:
To me one thing that has emerged from my experience and from very rigorous analysis of that experience over several years, talking it over with others that I respect in neuroscience, and really trying to come up with an answer, is that consciousness outside of the brain is a fact. It’s an established fact. And of course, that was a hard place for me to get, coming from being a card-toting reductive materialist over decades. It was very difficult to get to knowing that consciousness, that there’s a soul of us that is not dependent on the brain.
– Neurosurgeon/Neuroscientist Dr. Eben Alexander in an interview regarding his NDE
Near death experiences tend to do that. And some people who think that’s all bosh would be reluctant to trust their neurosurgery to someone who really thinks that the mind is just the brain is just 2 lbs of meat. We wish him well, and hope he will find that this helps him be a better physician.
American doctors are often harangued for not believing in materialist theories. Odd then, how many people fly to the States for medical treatment.

News, I think the link is broken.
I am hungry – I am not my body – I am the observer
I am sad – I am not my feelings – I am the observer
I am thinking – I am not my thoughts – I am the observer
I am deciding – I am not my will – I am the observer
I am conscious – I am not my consciousness – I am the observer
He who observes all that I am, is the essence of me.
Yes, thanks! Now fixed. At least, we tested it here, and the new link works for us.
I think this (click here) was the intended link.
He has a video:
His was kind of a spooky, weird, NDE, from the ‘usual’ ones I’ve seen:

Verse and Music:
Sheol for those who are not One in The-Son
Sheol for those who are still One in The-Mother
When The-Son is Born The-Mother shall die
Paradise for those who are One in The-Son
Paradise for those who are not One in The-Mother
When The-Son is Born The-Mother shall die
notes:
Even with the advantage of all our advanced space-age technology at their fingertips, all scientists can guess is that it was some type of electro-magnetic radiation (light) which is not natural to this world. Kevin Moran, a scientist working on the mysterious ‘3D’ nature of the Shroud image, states the ‘supernatural’ explanation this way:
If scientists want to find the source for the supernatural light which made the “3D – photographic negative” image I suggest they look to the thousands of documented Near-Death Experiences (NDE’s) in Judeo-Christian cultures. It is in their testimonies that you will find mention of an indescribably bright ‘Light’ or ‘Being of Light’ who is always described as being of a much brighter intensity of light than the people had ever seen before. All people who have been in the presence of ‘The Being of Light’ while having a deep NDE have no doubt whatsoever that the ‘The Being of Light’ they were in the presence of is none other than ‘The Lord God Almighty’ of heaven and earth.
This following video, which I’ve listed previously, and article, give some fairly deep insight into what the image formation on the Shroud signifies for us:
This following recent video revealed a very surprising holographic image that was found on the Shroud:

Hi News,
Thanks for a fascinating report. Coming from a neurosurgeon, it carries special weight. What I’d like to know is how Dr. Alexander now envisages the role of the brain in consciousness. Thanks again.
