Nobel Peace Prize Winner Al Gore on why evidence doesn’t matter (with free curse words)

Al Gore

Curse words don’t matter. What matters is the substance of his recent talk at the Aspen Institute:

The model they innovated in that effort was transported whole cloth into the climate debate. And some of the exact same people — by name, I can go down a list of their names — are involved in this. And so what do they do? They pay pseudo-scientists, to pretend to be scientists, to put out the message: “This climate thing, it’s nonsense. Man-made CO2 doesn’t trap heat. It may be volcanoes.” Bullshit! “It may be sun spots.” Bullshit! “It’s not getting warmer.” Bullshit!

And there are about 10 other memes that are out there, and when you go and talk to any audience about climate, you hear them washing back at you. The same crap, over and over and over again … There is no longer a shared reality on an issue like climate even though the very existence of our civilization is threatened. People have no idea! And yet our ability to actually come to a shared reality that emphasizes the best evidence … It’s no longer acceptable in mixed company, meaning bipartisan company, to use the goddamn word “climate.”

Ah yes, Dawkins’s “memes”again. A handy substitute for clear thought.

And this man was very nearly  president of the United States? And a big science promoter? The last thing he seems to care about is whether anyone has even noticed the heat death apocalypse to which he points.

Most UD news staff, who have a special exemption from voting in US elections, live in a region where, as the girl said to the weather forecaster, “Between you and me, it’s just not that hot.”

A guy can create an uproar by pulling the fire alarm – once. The third time, it won’t be a fire that gets investigated.

Science used to be about evidence. Now it’s about apocalyptic prophecy. What happened?

Here’s a vid.

I have always seen Al Gore as just inheriting his family's company. I never saw him as even average in abilities in weighing issues. There is no global warming from mans puffs of smoke. Its over and these global warmalohics need a new hobby. Al gore really taught me how his reasoning upon evidence was faulty when he said the Jewish holocaust was a American experience. One can show respect without making a foreign event ones own history. Gore is not the sharpest 'scientist". further he lost a election to Bush. bush wasn't all that in sharpness either. Robert Byers
Yeah, using a few swear words is no big deal, but it becomes a big deal when you've been a champion of clean speech in the media. I guess the difference is that Al was mad. He didn't plan on publishing such thoughts; they were off the cuff. OK, he could use that as a legit excuse, I suppose, but others might not see it that way. CannuckianYankee
Come on Al, pull your head out and just scream it:

In my long history with "progressives" Al Gore is one of their champions. Part of that had to do with the way in which Gore presented himself; a serious Christian who was concerned with all the social issues that liberal Christians were themselves concerned about. Now his true colors might just cause some of those followers to question that image, if not his overall platform. CannuckianYankee
You mean, instead of being taught in school as "science."? News
How ironic. Now everything al Gore says will need a parental warning sticker. CannuckianYankee
