H’mm, it just may be feasible to use actinic radiation as a respiratory tract antiviral:

https://youtu.be/RZHQbKe9TtI

Screenshot:

U/D: From cache, another screen shot:

Notice, AYTU is restricting bandwidth to UVA, UVA 400 nm – 320 nm, which is less damaging to us than shorter wavelength UV bands.

Interesting concept, at minimum, though how they would get it deeper into the lungs is another question. Let’s not forget, radiation therapy — using X-Rays — is still used to destroy cancer.

I guess, another use- it- early solution, if it works. END

U/D, PS: I found a Fox News mention:

What about diploid fungi, though? :-) Obviously there's a big difference between having technology that delivers UV light and having a treatment that works. The next step (assuming bench testing has been done), apparently, is an IDE, equivalent to a Phase I clinical trial. I would have thought this would be important here, as the appropriate UV dose needs to be worked out.Bob O'H

F/N Cedars Sinai patent application https://patents.justia.com/patent/20190175938 KF PS: Key clip, answering to dismissive talking points:
Ultraviolet light is invisible and non-ionizing segment of light spectrum that is divided into three spectrums: (1) UV-A (320 to 400 nm), (2) UV-B (280 to 320 nm), and (3) UV-C (110 to 280 nm). All these components are present in sunlight but UV-C is almost fully absorbed by ozone layer and does not reach the earth surface. UV-A and UV-B are involved in the formation of Vitamin D in human skin. Although UV-C light is traditionally used for disinfection of non-organic surfaces (e.g. hospital rooms, aquariums, air vents, and the like), UV-A and UV-B light have significant anti-inflammatory and antibiotic effects as well. The antibiotic effects of UV-A and UV-B light is induced via damage to haploid DNA/RNA of microorganisms such as bacteria, archaea, fungi, yeast and viruses within minutes. UV light is even capable of stopping the disease process in prion-related diseases that currently has no cure. However, mammalian diploid DNA is significantly more resistant to such damage. For example, it takes decades of direct sun exposure for select individuals with relevant gene susceptibility and skin type to develop precancerous skin lesions. UV phototherapy is widely being used in management of skin diseases, such as, for example, psoriasis, vitiligo, atopic dermatitis, eczema, Kaposi sarcoma, lichen planus, skin lymphoma, neonatal jaundice, and the like. Such process has been proposed and used as adenomatous polyp detection tool on colonoscopy and also has been proposed in conjunction with a super glue for closing patent foramen ovale. Considering the anti-inflammatory and antibiotic effects of UV-A and UV-B light, it has the potential to revolutionize the management of non-dermatologic (i.e., internal organs) infections and inflammatory diseases. While UV light has traditionally been used to treat skin disorders, it has not yet been developed for broader infection or inflammation treatment in vivo. Accordingly, a system has been developed as described herein for emission of therapeutic doses of UV light using vehicles, such as, for example, a catheter, capsule, endoscope, tube or port, for treating or managing internal infections and/or inflammatory conditions inside a patient. For instance, in some examples, the inventors developed devices that can deliver therapeutic doses of UV light in the UV-AB range from a catheter, endoscope, capsule, or other device to treat infections and inflammatory conditions inside the patient.

F/N: Dr Birx exposes the media tactics:
Dr. Birx: “Well, you know I’ve had privilege to do media all over the world. Uh, people may not have seen me before ’cause it’s primarily been in South Africa and Asia because I’ve been working on vaccines and therapeutics and pandemics around the globe for a number of years. Um, I, I think the media, is, um, very slicey and dicey about how they put sentences together in order to create headlines. I think, you know, Amer…we know for millennials and other studies that some people may only read the headlines. Um, and if there’s not a graphic they’e not gonna look any further than that. And I think, we have to be responsible about our headlines. I think often the, the reporting may be accurate in paragraph three, four and five but I’m not sure how many people actually get to paragraph three, four and five. And I think the responsibility that the press has is to really ensure that the headlines reflect the science and data that is in their piece itself.”

BO'H: We are talking, surgical procedure developed through Cedars-Sinai Los Angeles with Patent coming, peer reviewed paper and more; where the vid discusses hazards of actinic radiation, particularly noting why UVB and C are excluded; where of course the even more hazardous X-rays are routinely used in diagnosis and treatments. As I keep noting, the old pharmaco prof would start the course: pharmacology is the study of poisons in small doses. Where, by comparison, ventilators come with a significant risk of damage to alveoli to the point where last week, The UWI [the THE is part of the name] issued a regional warning. U/D: I thought the vanishing of the YT video seemed odd. Now it is clear that a NYT journalist made a complaint, shortly after which it was taken down. I cannot for the life of me come up with anything inappropriate, other than getting caught in the agit-prop crossfire in the USA. This speaks saddening volumes about where we are today. KF PS: The Tweet, for record:
Davey Alba [A NYT Reporter covering "tech and disinformation"] I contacted YouTube about this video, which is being shared on tons of replies on Twitter & on Facebook, by people asserting that it backs up Trump's idea throwing it out there that UV rays kill coronavirus. YouTube just said it removed it for violating its community guidelines.
I note a comment on this tweet:
Incredible. This is intuitive technology that has been in the works since 2016 by @CedarsSinai , and is fighting to save lives. We need to back @BioscienceAytu , and support them as we fight this novel disease, not hinder their progress. Taking down the video is an atrocious move

Of related note: Walter Bradley has a very interesting video on youtube entitled ‘Creation of the Cosmos’. In that video Dr. Walter Bradley goes over the fine tuning of the fundamental universal constants, light, and biological life for each other.
Creation of the Cosmos - Dr. Walter Bradley - Walter Bradley - (35:49 minute mark) video https://youtu.be/T4_SQzM-1AY?t=2149
And here is an article from Dr. Bradley related to that video entitled, “Is There Scientific Evidence for the Existence of God? How the Recent Discoveries Support a Designed Universe”. In the article Dr. Bradley also goes over the fine tuning of the fundamental universal constants, light, and biological life for each other.
Is There Scientific Evidence for the Existence of God? How the Recent Discoveries Support a Designed Universe - Dr. Walter L. Bradley http://www.leaderu.com/offices/bradley/docs/scievidence.html
In the paper Dr. Bradley also lists four graphs. (Figures 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4). At the bottom of the four graphs he states: “The visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum (~1 micron) is the most intense radiation from the sun (Figure 3.1); has the greatest biological utility (Figure 3.2); and passes through atmosphere of Earth (Figure 3.3) and water (Figure 3.4) with almost no absorption. It is uniquely this same wavelength of radiation that is idea to foster the chemistry of life. This is either a truly amazing series of coincidences or else the result of careful design.”,,, ,,, It is remarkable that both the Earth's atmosphere and water have "optical windows" that allow visible light (just the radiation necessary for life) to pass through with very little absorption, whereas shorter wavelength (destructive ultraviolet radiation) and longer wavelength (infrared) radiation are both highly absorbed, as seen in Figure 3.{23}

As well, at the 4:00 minute mark of the following video entitled 'Privileged Planet' it is stated that ,,, “These specific frequencies of light (that enable plants to manufacture food and astronomers to observe the cosmos) represent less than 1 trillionth of a trillionth (10^-24) of the universe’s entire range of electromagnetic emissions.”

As well, in the following article Michael Denton quotes the Encyclopaedia Britannica which states "Considering the importance of visible sunlight for all aspects of terrestrial life, one cannot help being awed by the dramatically narrow window in the atmospheric absorption…and in the absorption spectrum of water"
Is Earth’s Apparent Design for Life Simply the "Most Severe Case of Observational Bias in the History of Science"? - Michael Denton - May 9, 2014 Excerpt: the fact that the gases of the atmosphere let through just the right light for photosynthesis and the generation of oxygen while at the same time absorbing all the harmful EM radiation on either side of the visual window. Poli, I think there is a progression with infections and hitting the bronchi may help significantly. There is a reason they talk of BRONCH-itis. Likewise, they talk of BRONCH-ial Asthma. Getting into the Alveoli is another matter entirely. So, if Cedars Sinai actually did take it seriously [as is claimed], I am willing to take a pause and hear their case. KFkairosfocus

AS78, My cached YT file is stamped: "AYTU Healight 43,351 views •Apr 23, 2020." Shortly after I posted it and went back, it was removed. The AP paid announcement is dated April 20th and a conference call was then scheduled for April 21, so it is likely both US President Trump and various Media houses had heard of the matter. His words at the Press Conference, though rather inarticulately put, were clear enough that the pounce on and twist then media pile-on were dubious and further telling. In that context, YT's cutting off of the video is in my considered view, suspect and a harbinger. KFkairosfocus

Seems dubious in terms of basic anatomy. The terminal bronchioles and alveoli are microscopic and nearly infinite in number. An endoscope can reach the biggest inlet tube of each lung but can't penetrate much beyond that. The risks of digging around in the lungs are more certain.polistra

F/N: Aytu BioScience release on UVA light for killing respiratory tract pathogens:
AP, PRESS RELEASE: Paid content Aytu BioScience Signs Exclusive Global License with Cedars-Sinai for Potential Coronavirus Treatment April 20, 2020 . . . Aytu BioScience, Inc. (NASDAQ:AYTU) (the “Company”), a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on commercializing novel products that address significant patient needs announced today that it has signed an exclusive worldwide license from Cedars-Sinai to develop and commercialize the Healight Platform Technology (“Healight”). This medical device technology platform, discovered and developed by scientists at Cedars-Sinai, is being studied as a potential first-in-class treatment for coronavirus and other respiratory infections . . . . Led by Mark Pimentel, MD, the research team of the Medically Associated Science and Technology (MAST) Program at Cedars-Sinai has been developing the patent-pending Healight platform since 2016 and has produced a growing body of scientific evidence demonstrating pre-clinical safety and effectiveness of the technology as an antiviral and antibacterial treatment. The Healight technology employs proprietary methods of administering intermittent ultraviolet (UV) A light via a novel endotracheal medical device. Pre-clinical findings indicate the technology’s significant impact on eradicating a wide range of viruses and bacteria, inclusive of coronavirus. The data have been the basis of discussions with the FDA for a near-term path to enable human use for the potential treatment of coronavirus in intubated patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Beyond the initial pursuit of a coronavirus ICU indication, additional data suggest broader clinical applications for the technology across a range of viral and bacterial pathogens. This includes bacteria implicated in ventilator associated pneumonia (VAP). “Our team has shown that administering a specific spectrum of UV-A light can eradicate viruses in infected human cells (including coronavirus) and bacteria in the area while preserving healthy cells,” stated Dr. Pimentel of Cedars-Sinai. Ali Rezaie, MD, one of the inventors of this technology states, “Our lab at Cedars-Sinai has extensively studied the effects of this unique technology on bacteria and viruses. Based on our findings we believe this therapeutic approach has the potential to significantly impact the high morbidity and mortality of coronavirus-infected patients and patients infected with other respiratory pathogens. We are looking forward to partnering with Aytu BioScience to move this technology forward for the benefit of patients all over the world.” The company believes the Healight platform technology has the potential to positively impact outcomes for critically ill patients infected with coronavirus and severe respiratory infections. The company licensed exclusive worldwide rights to the technology from Cedars-Sinai for all endotracheal and nasopharyngeal indications. Patents have been filed by Cedars-Sinai Department of Technology Transfer, and Aytu BioScience will manage all aspects of intellectual property prosecution and filing globally. Aytu BioScience expects to partner the product outside the U.S. . . . . The Company is engaging with the research team at Cedars-Sinai and the FDA to determine an expedited regulatory process to potentially enable near-term use of the technology initially as a coronavirus intervention for critically ill intubated patients. [Chairman and CEO, Josh] Disbrow continued, “This first-in-class technology has the potential to be a game changer for clinicians treating patients infected with coronavirus and other respiratory conditions, and our team is working tirelessly alongside the Cedars-Sinai team to determine the safety and effectiveness of this device in humans.”
So, it seems there is something to this, though of course, significant work is required to clarify and confirm efficacy, if successful. Notice, too, the presence of expedited approvals processes in the FDA. KFkairosfocus

Ah, I see they have already suppressed the video! At least, the screen capture is there. It is in fact feasible to snake a tube down the respiratory tract and then to light up UV LEDs that are in the A band. Such will kill viruses and bacteria, as routinely happens with sunlight. The blurb talked about a paper to follow, so we will see what happens. KF PS: I was able to pull and save the vid from cached content.kairosfocus
