Just a quick reminder to everyone that if you want to present at the Alternatives to Methodological Naturalism Online Conference, you have until March 15th (that’s Tuesday) to submit your abstracts! The conference is online, so anyone can attend from anywhere. If you are interested in attending, you can register here. If you are interested in presenting, the call for abstracts is here. We actually already have a pretty full schedule, but since this is an interdisciplinary conference, I want to make sure we have a wide diversity of perspectives. We currently have submissions from the disciplines of economics, psychology, computer science, engineering, linguistics, and biology. While we will be discussing many aspects related to methodological naturalism and its alternatives, the key focus will be on methodology. Some disciplines (such as economics) already have methodologies in place which are not methodologically naturalistic (Austrian economics incorporates what von Mises calls methodological dualism), some (such as human computation in computer science) have practices that are not based on naturalism but which largely lack formal methodology, and some have not been formally looked at from non-naturalistic perspectives. Anyway, if you have ideas, feel free to submit them to info@blythinstitute.org. It already looks like the conference is going to go past one day, but that doesn’t mean we are closed to interesting ideas!
