From Jesse Emspak at LiveScience:

The world’s largest atom smasher has revealed a new kind of particle, and so far, it leads a charmed existence.

The discovery of the particle, which is made up of two so-called charm quarks, validates the predictions of the Standard Model, the current reigning model of particle physics.

The Xi joins a menagerie of other particles that form the world of the very small. The Xi is a baryon, which means a particle made of three even smaller particles called quarks. More.

RVB8, Mung loves to pun. You should know he has a very active mind and is a voracious reader across the relevant domain of topics to the point of using storage. In this case, here we go in the particle zoo, with Xi based on charmed quarks. Speaking of, have you begun to read Lewis and Barnes, A Fortunate Universe, which inter alia describes the relevance of this model to our evidently quite fine tuned cosmos. Which, sits at a locally deeply isolated operating point which facilitates C-chem, aqueous medium, galactic habitable zone, privileged terrestrial planet, cell-based life. Even through quasi-infinite multiverse models, we should not be seeing this. E.g. a Boltzmann brain world is more plausible relative to such a construct. John Leslie's lone fly on the wall splatted by a bullet still beckons for attention, esp. as this does not depend on other zones of the wall not being carpeted by flies. A locally isolated fly splatted like that calls for a good rifleman with a well tuned tack-driver of a rifle. Or in Robin Collins' terms, a well baked cosmos calls for a well tuned cosmos-bakery. I am confident that a bit of pondering outside the atheistical talking points rhetorical box will do you good. And BTW, it's getting a bit old to dress up atheism in tattered scientism lab coats. Such a scheme is grossly self-referentially incoherent as the attempted monopolisation of all or effectively all serious knowledge to "science" is inherently a grand epistemological, thus philosophical, knowledge claim. Phil still rules the roost, I am afraid. KFkairosfocus

Mung, what a pointless two word brain failure; I'll respond. By using science the new Xi particle supports the 'Standard Model' of physics. By using science, experimentation, and the gathering of physical evidence, DNA supports the 'Evolutionary Model' of biology.rvb8
