Historically, not a rare event.

Here Rabbi Moshe Averick does an interview with host Ken R. Unger,a “true Renaissance Man”, who notes

Atheists sound real smart until they come up against someone who knows science better than they do. Today’s guest, Rabbi Moshe Averick, is just that kinda guy. His book Nonsense a High Order: The Confused and Illusory world of the Atheist takes on top atheists and he usually comes out on top. Learn why he believes Intelligent Design is more scientific than the outdated pseudo science of Evolutionary Theory.

Rabbi Averick was great as usual, but the interviewer was horrible. Darwin recanted on his death bed? Really, you're going to bring up a discredited urban legend as a serious discussion point? And even if he had (which he didn't), why would anyone care? It would say nothing of the truth of evolutionary theory. The interviewer also claims that a group of secular scientists have "admitted" that nature shows signs of intelligent design, out of "intellectual integrity." Rabbi Averick senses this is a false statement and wisely disassociates himself from it. I may be wrong, but I can't imagine any group of non-ID scientists publicly admitting any form of support for ID, due to the extremely charged academic climate. Who are these scientists and why would they damage their careers in such a way? People don't have that much courage in general. Why has no one in the ID community heard of such a thing? (I'm open to correction if someone does know about it, but my hunch is that it is a made-up pastor's story, like the Darwin recanting on his death bed.) There are better Rabbi Averick interviews to choose from, such as his series with Dr. Paul Nelson.Atom

Lutepisc, "pink elephants leaping over white picket fences"? Reminds me of an old joke: The pink elephant and the purple giraffe wander into the bar at 4:45 pm, and the bartender says to them: "You're early, guys. He's not here yet."O'Leary

AtheistIDer, methinks me sniffs a mole troll! You wrote: "I imagine the distribution of religious beliefs among those who have realized ID is the truth would be very similar to the distribution of the religious beliefs of the public as a whole." Why would you imagine that? A chunk of ID proponents are young earthers. Since this population resonates with the ID approach, I would expect to find them overrepresented in the ID population. You wouldn't? And you wrote: "...I would hope religion would be kept from this blog." Why bring it up then? I would also hope that you can keep from imagining pink elephants leaping over white picket fences. Oops! What were you just now thinking? We'll be keeping an eye on you...Lutepisc

Always good to see someone fighting the good fight for ID. However, positing that ID vs. evolution is somehow atheists vs. the religious is totally off the mark. Intelligent design is a proven science and the religious beliefs of its practitioners is completely irrelevant and I would hope religion would be kept from this blog. I imagine the distribution of religious beliefs among those who have realized ID is the truth would be very similar to the distribution of the religious beliefs of the public as a whole.atheistIDer
