Breitbart, as I just saw:

After a two-week battle against opposition from the platform’s board members, self-declared free speech absolutist Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and currently the richest man in the world, has succeeded in his bid to buy Twitter.

In a press release, the Twitter board announced that they had reached an agreement with the multi-billionaire to sell 100 percent of the company at Musk’s original price of $54.20 per share.

Where does this point?

DEVELOPING.

Has there been a similar commitment from TruthSocial?
If they don't do the same thing, it will fail. Including criticism of Trump. People on both sides of the political spectrum get off on ad hominems. But one side is pretty much empty on content that can be justified, similar to here at UD.jerry

Favourite Musk: “I hope that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means,” Musk tweeted. Say or think what you want about Musk, one of the American founders might have said much the same thing.
Let's hope he stands by that promise. Has there been a similar commitment from TruthSocial?Seversky

F/N: Some research on turnabout, turnspeech projection: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/01461672012711010
Projection as an Interpersonal Influence Tactic: The Effects of the Pot Calling the Kettle Black Derek D. Rucker, Anthony R. Pratkanis First Published November 1, 2001 Research Article https://doi.org/10.1177/01461672012711010 Article information Article has an altmetric score of 57 No Access Abstract In his analysis of Nazi propaganda, Ellis Freeman identified an influence tactic based on projection: accusing another person of the negative traits and behaviors that one possesses and exhibits with the goal of deflecting blame away from one’s own misdeeds and toward the accused. Although the use of projection as an influence tactic is not limited to fascist regimes and its consequences can be socially devastating, the projection tactic has not been subjected to experimental analysis. In four experiments, the authors found that projection was effective in (a) increasing the blame placed on the target of the projection and (b) decreasing the culpability of the accuser (or projectionist). These effects occurred despite (a) raising suspicions about the motives of the projectionist, (b) providing evidence that the projectionist is guilty of the deed, and (c) timing the projection so that it occurred after the misdeeds came to light.

F/N, Mr Trump's response https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2022/04/25/donald-trump-i-am-not-going-back-to-twitter/
Donald Trump will not tweet again if Elon Musk restores the former president to Twitter. “I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH. I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH,” Trump told Fox News after Musk agreed to purchase Twitter on Monday. Trump also noted he will begin actively using TRUTH Social over the next week. TRUTH Social was launched last month after it was beta tested in February. The company is operated by former Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the platform’s CEO. “We’re taking in millions of people, and what we’re finding is that the response on TRUTH is much better than being on Twitter,” Trump said. “Twitter has bots and fake accounts, and we are doing everything we can.” Twitter permanently blacklisted Trump after January 6, 2021, which the media has dubbed an “insurrection.” Twitter banned Trump because it claimed it did not want to risk the “further incitement of violence.” Twitter “became very boring because conservatives were thrown off or got off the platform when I left,” Trump told Fox News. “The bottom line is, no, I am not going back to Twitter.”

Sev, where were you when the tide of censorship against and demonisation of the despised other was rising? KF PS, it seems there is need for a reminder on the Christian theology of the civil magistrate, e.g. first, Rom 13:
3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer.
These show what a legitimate ruler is, as God's servant; set apart for the defence of the civil peace of justice; of course informed by first principles of law written into our evident, morally governed but morally struggling nature. Justice being due balance of rights, freedoms, duties, where none can properly claim as a right what compels another to do or uphold wrong. However, a magistrate who turns to injustice instead is subject first to correction then at length removal, with many exemplars. The general election is a solemn assembly with power of removal and reform, and corruption of elections is a particularly wicked act. The Reichstag fire incident amply illustrates.kairosfocus

JH, toxic side track. The recent rise of censorship was of little concern until grip on power was threatened. Had those who cheered on demonisation, scapegoating and targetting of the despised other been instead concerned for responsible freedom, this development would not have been of significant concern. When this takeover is warmly welcomed by the likes of Mark Levin, Ron de Santis, Greg Abbott, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert you can see which way they think the wind is blowing, I hope Musk stands by his promise to welcome his critics on Twitter but only time will tell. And if Dear Leader Trump is returned to power - as is his right according to those who believe he has been anointed by God to lead the country - and then has himself created President-for-life - which would apparently be enthusiastically supported by many here - then it would be only a matter of time before Twitter becomes the online equivalent of the Volkischer Beobachter.Seversky

We can hope otherwise but Lord Acton's warning is still worth bearing in mind:
Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men, even when they exercise influence and not authority, still more when you superadd the tendency or the certainty of corruption by authority.

Elon is a full partner in Deepstate, but unlike most rich demons he has occasionally done the right thing. He has a long record of suing people who displease him, but he also protected his factory workers from forced muzzles and vaxes. No other corporate leader had the guts to do that. We'll just have to wait and see which side of Elon takes charge.polistra

F/N, Holocaust Museum: https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/the-reichstag-fire
On February 27, 1933, the German parliament (Reichstag) building burned down. The Nazi leadership and its coalition partners used the fire to claim that Communists were planning a violent uprising. They claimed that emergency legislation was needed to prevent this. The resulting act, commonly known as the Reichstag Fire Decree, abolished a number of constitutional protections and paved the way for Nazi dictatorship. Key Facts Implemented one day after the fire, the decree suspended the right to assembly, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and other constitutional protections, including all restraints on police investigations. It remained in effect until Nazi Germany was defeated in May 1945. The decree permitted the regime to arrest and incarcerate political opponents without specific charge, to dissolve political organizations, and to confiscate private property. The decree also gave the regime the authority to overrule state and local laws and overthrow state and local governments . . . . The Nazi press described the Reichstag fire as the work of the Communists and a signal for their planned uprising. Even the US independent Fox Movie Tones newsreel reflected the German government version. Although the Communists had not, in fact, developed any plans for an uprising, the impact of propaganda and terror on existing fears of a Communist takeover convinced many Germans that Hitler’s decisive action had saved the nation from “Bolshevism.” Within months, for example, the Nazi regime destroyed Germany’s previously vigorous free press. By 1941, the Nazi Party’s Eher publishing house had become the largest ever in German history, and its main daily newspaper, the Völkischer Beobachter (The National Observer) had reached a circulation of over 1,000,000.

F/N: Wikipedia's admissions on the Reichstag fire incident are worth noting:
The Reichstag fire (German: Reichstagsbrand, listen (help·info)) was an arson attack on the Reichstag building, home of the German parliament in Berlin, on Monday 27 February 1933, precisely four weeks after Nazi leader Adolf Hitler was sworn in as Chancellor of Germany. Marinus van der Lubbe, a Dutch "council communist", was the culprit along with his communist cell, but Hitler saw the fire as part of the wider communist violence. van der Lubbe said he hoped to spark a revolution in Germany, and Hitler argued that communists would seek to overthrow the German government. He induced President Paul von Hindenburg to issue the Reichstag Fire Decree suspending civil liberties and pursued a "ruthless confrontation" with communist groups and rioters.[1] This made the fire pivotal in the establishment of Nazi Germany. The first report of the fire came shortly after 9:00 p.m., when a Berlin fire station received an alarm call.[2] By the time police and firefighters arrived, the Chamber of Deputies (the lower house) was engulfed in flames. The police conducted a thorough search inside the building and found Van der Lubbe, who was arrested. After the Fire Decree was issued, the Nazi-controlled police made mass arrests of communists, including all of the communist Reichstag delegates. This severely crippled communist participation in the 5 March elections. After the 4 March elections, the absence of the communists gave the Nazi Party a majority in the Reichstag, greatly assisting the Nazi seizure of total power. As part of the effort to blame the Fire on the communists, on 9 March the Prussian state police arrested Bulgarians Georgi Dimitrov, Vasil Tanev, and Blagoy Popov, who were known Comintern operatives (though the police did not know it, Dimitrov was head of all Comintern operations in Western Europe). Ernst Torgler, head of the Communist Party, had surrendered himself to police on 28 February. They and Van Der Lubbe were the defendants in the Leipzig Trial. All four communists were acquitted. The responsibility for the Reichstag fire remains a topic of debate and research.[3][4] The Nazis accused the Comintern of the act. However, some historians believe, based on archive evidence, that the arson had been planned and ordered by the Nazis as a false flag operation.[5][6] The building remained in its damaged state until it was partially repaired from 1961 to 1964 and completely restored from 1995 to 1999. In 2008, Germany posthumously pardoned Van der Lubbe under a law introduced in 1998 to lift unjust verdicts dating from the Nazi era.

And of course, MSNBC: https://www.msnbc.com/the-reidout/reidout-blog/elon-musk-twitter-deal-rcna25869
Twitter accepts Musk's offer to buy the company for $44 billion Prepare for an even more hellish experience on Twitter than you've ever imagined. April 25, 2022, 3:07 PM -04 By Ja'han Jones Twitter on Monday agreed to allow Elon Musk, one of the platform's most notorious trolls, to buy the company. Twitter’s board of directors unanimously agreed to Musk’s offer to purchase the social media platform for roughly $44 billion, NBC News reported. The announcement followed weeks of reported jostling between Musk and Twitter’s board of directors over whether he should be allowed to take over the company. Some people may have found comfort in recent reports saying Twitter’s board adopted a "poison pill" plan for shareholders that would prevent Musk from doing so. But Monday's deal suggests Twitter was just holding out for the right price to sell out. Make no mistake: Musk’s ownership of the company will likely make the platform into even more of a hellscape. The reasons why are clear to anyone willing to see them. Musk has a warped view of free speech that’s not befitting of someone running a social media platform. His sophomoric perception of “free speech” draws from right-wing logic claiming moderation — even moderation of speech that might cause harm — is unjust. For example, he criticized Twitter's decision to ban former President Donald Trump for posing a risk of inciting further violence after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. “A good sign as to whether there’s free speech is: Is someone you don’t like allowed to say something you don’t like? And if that is the case, then we have free speech,” Musk said during an interview after he became Twitter's largest investor this month.
I saw commentary today that characterises those who do not toe the progressivist line as "nazis." KFkairosfocus

Farah and co at WND: https://www.wnd.com/2022/04/report-elon-musk-nearing-43-billion-deal-buy-twitter/
Hours after declaring his hope that "his worst critics" will remain on Twitter, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk purchased the social-media giant for $44 billion on Monday, turning it into a privately held company. Musk, the world's richest person, according to Forbes, has made it clear that his chief aim is not to make money on the deal but to turn Twitter into a genuine platform for free speech. "Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated," Musk said in a statement upon closing the deal. "I also want to make Twitter better than ever." The Big Tech giant – which notoriously censored the New York Post's blockbuster stories on Biden family influence peddling in China, Russia and other nations – has banned the likes of former President Trump, Dr. Robert Malone and other notable figures whose tweets violated the establishment narrative on issues such as the 2020 election and COVID-19.
