Uncommon Descent Serving The Intelligent Design Community

1) Dawkins wants to land porn on Muslim world? 2) Dawkins yawnfest has just got to stop?

Well, for sure we would vote for #2, if we were offered some kind of ballot. Anyway, amazing stuff here:

Richard Dawkins’ insanity has now become an English institution – like warm beer and rain. On Saturday morning, a tweet from his account asked why we don’t send lots of “erotic videos” to theocracies, adding that it should be “loving, gentle, woman-respecting” (I guess this involves the pizza delivery boy calling the next day). If we’re going down this road, I also hear that Islamists aren’t very keen on bacon, so perhaps we should bombard the Iranian countryside with pig carcasses? Also, miniature bottles of gin. And photos of hot guys making out – in a “men-respecting” and “gentle” sort of way.

Hey. Maybe Dawkins should test drive it all in a snow dump in Canada first. Especially the pig carcasses.

Snow dump: Well, in near north Canada we have to get snow off urban roads, right? So there are huge dumps of snow. There is even one near the otherwise elite and highly sophisticated offices of Uncommon Descent News.

The thing is huge and awful, and just keeps growing with each weather event but the pig carcasses might sink to the bottom.

It would be a good place to test Dawkins’ idea because no one would notice any assumed assaults on decency until May or so.

Hey, a guy could howl and bark at the moon out there tonight, and —honestly — no one would likely notice.

Hangonasec,a bit of both I would say, let me explain. Atheism has declared war on everything I hold sacred. Traditional family values, life, marriage, morals...the list goes on. The atheist track record, and the trail of destruction it has left both physically, psychologically and spiritually, speaks for itself. Your insane philosophies, your immorality and your corruption permeate public thought, education and decision making, with each new law driving a nail into the coffin of our once great civilisation. Our society today reeks of corruption thanks to atheism. You sneak this evil in, like the weasels you are, using sophistry with terms like progressive and political correctness. As the atheist sickness spreads infecting our people, especially our young ones in school etc, we slip further as a nation / people into a spiritual darkness. This will no doubt lead to our destruction like countless civilisations have done before us as they've turned from the light and embraced atheistic thought. Atheism is a sickness, a plague and it is corrosive to the mind and society at large. Make no mistake, we are at war. Not a war for land, resources etc but one for the health, mind and wellbeing, a person's soul if you will, of every person alive today.humbled

Perhaps atheists are the product of a genetic deficiency or disorder – and if so, one can only wonder what else is wrong with them.
Why, thank 'ee for your expressions of contempt. Or were you trying to express pity? They can't help 'emselves, that kind of thing? Cue misplaced rejoinder on genetic determinism.Hangonasec

Between an ID Journal I am not allowed to publish in (only academic and corporate email accounts are allowed to use it) and all the religious agendas that the Discovery Institute and UD exists to promote anyone left who is serious about getting the science work done gets to drop dead while all the ones profiting from pretending to be serving us talk about how moral they are!Gary S. I think News did the right thing. Thank you, News. Atheists and Darwinists should stop whining like little crybabies. I don't see them complaining when their side uses Christian fundamentalism to attack ID. Grow up, darn it.Mapou

Question: How many of the world’s atheists believe that Dawkins is an asset to their cause?
A very small proportion because for most atheists, atheism is not a cause.Mark Frank

'Dawkins yawnfest has just got to stop.' Now that he has been made aware of the Denyse ambivalence coefficient, and all the ire and negative feeling that that stigma attaches to an individual in the world's blogosphere, I'm sure he'll back off. Really Denyse, I don't think you fully understand the untold power that you, and Barry, and this blog, wield. The way you bring attention to injustices (Dembsky's being made fun of; No one takes Behe seriously; please please (stomp foot irritably)listen to us; Evolution is not true not not not!) The way you focus a nefarious world upon the issues that are truly important, the way you difuse the rediculous attention on global warming, and now, the way you simply, with the flick of your mighty pen, diss Dawkins. They tell me that when Dawkins wakes up, he checks Denys's blog for the tide of thinking in the blogosphere. He then consults vjtorley, for a BRIEF study of all things brief, he then reads Barry, for a laugh. I tell you when Dawkins reads that Denyse, and therefore UD have unceremoniously given him the flip, he will be devastated and might no longer go to all the international science conferences he is regularly invited to. You know, the conferences where all of the ID people are very conspicuous, for one reason or another; because they are uninvited, because the deligates are talking SCIENCE!rvb8

Petruska, your claim about Saudi Arabia is false:
In the Muslim countries of Egypt, Tunisia, and Lebanon, porn sites account for five to seven of the 100 most popular websites. Apparently porn crosses all borders, regardless of the religious predilections of governments and citizens. Alexa, a division of Amazon.com which tracks online traffic patterns, reported that porn sites ranked as the 15th, 23rd, 29th, 67th, and 83rd most visited sites in Egypt. Two X-rated sites appear in the country’s top 25. In Tunisia, porn sites ranked 14th, 16th, 20th, 49th, 60th, 93rd, and 97th. In Lebanon, the 33rd, 34th, 45th, 52nd, and 58th most visited webpages were porn sites. Other Arab Muslim countries such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait aren’t on the list because they have nation-wide filtering that blocks pornographic sites. As a result of these findings, Egypt’s Prosecutor General ordered the government’s ministries of telecommunications, information, and the interior to start enforcing a ban on online porn. http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2012/11/14/many-in-islamic-countries-visit-porn-sites/
Moreover, although many left wingers are hesitant to admit this for some reason, women's rights in many Muslim countries are pitiful:
LONDON, Nov 12 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Sexual harassment, high rates of female genital cutting and a surge in violence and Islamist feeling after the Arab Spring uprisings have made Egypt the worst country in the Arab world to be a woman, a poll of gender experts showed on Tuesday. Discriminatory laws and a spike in trafficking also contributed to Egypt’s place at the bottom of a ranking of 22 Arab states, the Thomson Reuters Foundation survey found. Despite hopes that women would be one of the prime beneficiaries of the Arab Spring, they have instead been some of the biggest losers, as the revolts have brought conflict, instability, displacement and a rise in Islamist groups in many parts of the region, experts said. http://www.trust.org/item/20131108170910-qacvu/?source=spotlight-writaw

Neurological research indicates that a particular part of the brain is connected to religious experiences. Perhaps atheists are the product of a genetic deficiency or disorder – and if so, one can only wonder what else is wrong with them. After all, most atheists seem to suffer from delusions of grandeur, convinced that they hold the keys to humanity’s march toward utopia. They are also quite happy to embrace programs to “improve” humanity to suit their own purposes – hardly a coincidence, one would have to suggest, that the most repressive regimes of recent days have all been formulated along atheistic, humanist principles. One can only hope that the possible link between atheism and mental illness is examined honestly before countless others suffer needlessly.humbled
