The title of John Farrell’s article in Commonweal from earlier this year is a dead giveaway.     The reason that Leibniz (and even Laplace) objected to Newton’s suggestion that God could adjust the orbits of the planets to keep them in order was not because they thought the laws of the universe to be independent and immutable, but was because they rightly believed that God was infinite and perfect in knowledge and would thus get the orbits of the solar system right the first time.

    They correctly held that it would reflect badly on Almighty God if He had to tweak His creation from time to time.

    As to not having to “remedy the defects of His creation”, I hold that both Newton and Leibniz (and even Laplace) would be very pleased by what modern science has now revealed about the widom and power of God:

    Of course Atheists, with their dependence on randomness as the creator of all things, have no clue how the solar system could have remained so remarkably stable for all these billions of years, and, again with the dependence on randomness as the creator of all things, atheists have even less of a clue how the unchanging, finely tuned, laws of nature came about in the first place.

    Whereas, again, Newton and Leibniz (and even Laplace) would be very pleased by the wisdom and power of God reflected in His creation.

    Thus, although the Darwinian Atheist firmly believes he is on the terra firma of science (in his appeal, even demand, for methodological naturalism), the fact of the matter is that, when examining the details of his materialistic/naturalistic worldview, it is found that Darwinists/Atheists are adrift in an ocean of fantasy and imagination with no discernible anchor for reality to grab on to.

    It would be hard to fathom a worldview more antagonistic to modern science than Atheistic materialism and/or methodological naturalism have turned out to be.

    Moreover, although the Atheist may have severely deluded himself into thinking that the Agent Causality of God is not necessary to sustain this universe in its continual existence, and may have also severely deluded himself into thinking his own agent causality (and/or free will) is superfluous, the Agent Causality of God (and even our very own free will), via quantum mechanics, has come storming back with a vengeance.     Moreover Steven Weinberg himself, an atheist, noted that in quantum mechanics, in what is termed ‘the instrumentalist approach’, humans are brought into the laws of physics at the most fundamental level instead of humans being a result of the laws of physics as Darwinists had falsely imagined us to be.

    Needless to say, Atheists don’t like the “instrumentalist approach” of quantum mechanics since it, by letting free will into the laws of nature at the most fundamental level., directly undermines the Darwinian worldview from within. Yet, the “instrumentalist approach”, in spite of how atheists may personally feel about it, is experimentally confirmed to be true by contextuality and/or by the Kochen-Speckter Theorem.

    In regards to contextuality we find that In the quantum world, the property that you discover through measurement is not the property that the system actually had prior to the measurement process. What you observe necessarily depends on how you carried out the observation.,,, and,,, Measurement outcomes depend on all the other measurements that are performed – the full context of the experiment.
    Contextuality means that quantum measurements can not be thought of as simply revealing some pre-existing properties of the system under study.

    And when we rightly let the Agent Causality of God ‘back’ into the picture of modern physics, as the Christian founders of modern physics originally envisioned, (Newton, Maxwell, Faraday, and Planck to name a few), then an empirically backed reconciliation between Quantum Mechanics, Special Relativity, and General Relativity, readily pops out for us in Christ’s resurrection from the dead:
