Hmmm. Looking at the question from a slightly different perspective, one might say that naturalism (nature is all there is), often called “materialism,” is failing intellectually.
To paraphrase Michael Egnor “If your hypothesis is that the human mind is an illusion, then you don’t have a hypothesis.” That’s beginning to sink in.
There is no escape via pure naturalist atheism from the conundrums science sets before us.
