Stuff Darwin hates: School system improves without Darwin

State seal of Louisiana Louisiana allows teachers to question Darwinian evolution and—under a lot of pressure from you’ll never guess what quarter—people there were wondering if they should go back to demanding belief in order to improve their school system.

They decided to just leave things as they are for now.

The problem is, Louisiana’s school system is improving without Darwin. Darwin’s followers need to get in there to take any credit going.

The state’s got a long way to go, but it’s sure not clear that reloading Charlie is the answer.

Er, as a Louisiana teacher for the last 19 years, I can tell you that most parents who care about education would far rather send their kids to a Catholic or Protestant school than most public ones. Better discipline, better teaching, better results. Sadly, many parents cannot afford to do so, which is why the state has instituted a tuition/voucher program. Public schools hate it, of course. Personally, I strongly favor teaching students about neo Darwinism, both the strengths and weaknesses. Critical thinking is very important.anthropic

From the link provided by Denyse, "The state received nearly a perfect score -- second place -- for its standards, assessments and accountability, while landing in 48th place for K-12 achievement." "When measuring K-12 achievement, the magazine relied heavily on fourth- and eighth-graders' 2011 reading and math test results." ...so if we sit back and examine the improvement we find it is in administrative processes whilst the actual children's reading and mathematics skills remain towards the bottom. Honestly, is that really an improvement worth resting on when the real customers of the education system, the children, are being used as a political football by the religious lobby rather than being educated ?Lincoln Phipps

Bringing in fights about issues always sharpens people up. giving equal time in this state shows a increasing interest by the public in education which makes the kids more interested. An equation here.Robert Byers
