I am using this website as a resource for working out my position on COVID 19. Thank you to everyone who has participated including those who push back at me. The dialectic in play on this site has been very helpful to me and I hope it has been helpful to other participants and to the lurkers. Yes, inevitably, some exchanges have been heated. Emotions are running high. But let us keep it up. Iron sharpens iron a wise man once said.

@19 Jerry:
The next step in testing is serontology or the testing blood for immune factors. That will estimate how many people have contracted the disease but had minor or no symptoms.
Yes. This article explains it very well (IMHO): But I do not think a massive scanning of the whole world is possible. ___ New blood tests for antibodies could show true scale of coronavirus pandemic.
"How many COVID-19 cases have gone undetected? And are those who had mild cases of the disease—perhaps so mild they dismissed it as a cold or allergies—immune to new infections? If so, they could slow the spread of the burgeoning pandemic. Answering those questions is crucial to managing the pandemic and forecasting its course". https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/03/new-blood-tests-antibodies-could-show-true-scale-coronavirus-pandemic

We will probably never know it with certainty.
The next step in testing is serontology or the testing blood for immune factors. That will estimate how many people have contracted the disease but had minor or no symptoms. Testing for the virus itself is useful but not for estimating those people who have gotten the it and then recovered without any symptoms. Is the editing function gone? I don't comment here very much but only recently could change a comment for a short time period to correct grammar or meaning.jerry

@16 Jerry: Without knowing the number of subclinical infections (people with no symptoms or symptoms so mild they do not care/ report them), everything becomes speculative. As the study you shared above shows, maybe millions of humans already have antibodies against COVID-19, maybe it's just a few thousands. We will probably never know it with certainty.Truthfreedom

Folks, thanks. The other shoe just dropped. Antigua closes its airport to incoming commercial flights as at midnight tomorrow. That's our international gateway. Already, anyone coming here faces 14 days quarantine. Oh yes, the second case here is not traced to the 1st and is a domestic infection. Likely there is a loose case out there. Fun stuff. All is not gloomy out there. A study from Oxford estimates half the UK population has had the corona virus. Seems implausible but that is what it said. https://theweek.com/speedreads/904584/new-oxford-study-suggests-millions-people-may-have-already-built-coronavirus-immunity If true or close to true, then the virus is almost over as opposed to ending the world. The Diamond Princess was the perfect Petri dish. 4000 people living close together, 83% did not get it and only 7 died. That's a very low number compared to H1N1 where 40-70 million in US contracted, 260000 hospitalized and over 12000 died. All the news people did was shrug their shoulders. Nothing to see here.jerry

Barry I posted this on the other thread might as well do it here as well 480 Vividbleau March 25, 2020 at 2:41 pm I know we are all trying to get a handle on something that we will not know for months but here is some good news and let’s hope in continues. In New York the governor said that original projections were hospitalizations would double every 2 days, on Monday the projections were every 3.4 days and Tuesday they are at 4.7 days. Quote “This is almost to good to be true” Let’s hope not Vividvividbleau

The problem is that Atheists/Materialists/Scientismists/Progs/Statists are impervious to information outside the narrative. You could spend years here and you might as well hope that intelligent potholes read your comments and understand them, as far as it goes.
I know. And I know some of them who have changed. There is hope. :)Truthfreedom

But if people are mindless robots, so was Darwin. Meaning he was 'forced' to write *On the Origin of Species* by his brain chemistry. Which again makes 0 sense.Truthfreedom

Well, there are going to be a whole lot of people who, after not too long, are going to want to do their own thing again, especially when they see the illness has not and is not going to affect them. And I mean a whole lot of people.
In the end, everything has to do with consciousness/ free will. That is why darwinism makes 0 sense, according to them, people fleeing and people staying at home are the same, just slaves of their brain chemistry. There are not humans making conscious choices, just mindless robots.Truthfreedom

And I mean a whole lot of people. Right or wrong, there is only so much herding of cats that can be done. And it doesn't help that we have what appear to be the usual forces pushing narratives, politicizing, and otherwise casting unreliable information far and wide. For what it's worth, I'm willing to and cooperating with all the precautions, but I don't know how long people will be willing to have criminals and liars tell them what to do. Andrewasauber

Thanks for that Barry! I will try hard not to offend but merely present other views. Of course we will disagree about many of them; some will be resolved in time and I would very much like to revisit the core issues after the infections curve has truly dropped to near zero.JVL
