If you spend any time at all on the website Fark.com, you know the site’s got a large atheist/agnostic population. And quite a few of them, surprisingly, admit to believing in ghosts or the supernatural. At least in the sense that they had an experience or know of someone who had an experience of some spiritual nature that defies explanation.
They might not say outright, “I do believe in spooks, I do, I do,” but they’re humble enough to admit that there’s more in this world than is dreamt of in their particular atheist philosophy.
Here is a good Friday night spook story:

Unclear, to me at any rate, why a person who believes in spooks and gibbering frites baulks at believing in the mind or free will. One is temptd to take advantage of them, but it would be very unethical. – O’Leary for News (by the way, just for the record, I am not the only person here who writes News).
O’Leary NEWS, of related note, I read the following article this morning and was quite impressed at how ‘questioning of the spirit’ first moved this descendent of Charles Darwin from atheism towards Christianity:
Here are a few tantalizing clues that humans are more than merely molecules in motion:
And we now have evidence for this transcendent information that is ‘constraining the local thermodynamics to be in ordered disequilibrium’,,
Moreover this transcendent information is found to be conserved
But if this transcendent information that is ‘constraining the local thermodynamics to be in ordered disequilibrium’ cannot be destroyed, then exactly where does this conserved information go upon the death of the human body?

His proof comes from seeing many people pass from this world to the next as he sits vigil holding many dying patient’s hands. His miraculous story give true insight into the afterlife.
