Psychiatry to undergo a fully materialist reboot?

Spread the love

Readers may recall that psychiatry’s latest Bible, DSM-V, was heavily criticized in places that matter for lack of relevance to real mental health problems.

Now, it seems, they are proposing a “scientific reboot.”

In fact, it sounds like a fully materialist reboot:

And even some DSM critics are sceptical of the NIMH approach, branding it too reductionist. “The idea that the conditions we have to deal with are reducible to simplistic biological categories is wish fulfilment,” says Timimi.

In that case, the best thing that can happen is that it will just be another brand of nonsense that doesn’t help much. If it gets classed as “science,” look out.

Remember, Darwinism is classed as “science.”

One finding that really blew the cover off the materialist’s reductionist belief that mind is merely an emergent property, i.e a secretion, of the brain,,

The mechanical brain does not secrete thought “as the liver does bile,” as the earlier materialists claimed, nor does it put it out in the form of energy, as the muscle puts out its activity. Information is information, not matter or energy. No materialism which does not admit this can survive at the present day.

,,,is the fact that mind is now found to control gene expression:

Scientists Finally Show How Your Thoughts Can Cause Specific Molecular Changes To Your Genes, – December 10, 2013
Excerpt: “To the best of our knowledge, this is the first paper that shows rapid alterations in gene expression within subjects associated with mindfulness meditation practice,” says study author Richard J. Davidson, founder of the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds and the William James and Vilas Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
“Most interestingly, the changes were observed in genes that are the current targets of anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs,” says Perla Kaliman, first author of the article and a researcher at the Institute of Biomedical Research of Barcelona, Spain (IIBB-CSIC-IDIBAPS), where the molecular analyses were conducted.,,,
the researchers say, there was no difference in the tested genes between the two groups of people at the start of the study. The observed effects were seen only in the meditators following mindfulness practice. In addition, several other DNA-modifying genes showed no differences between groups, suggesting that the mindfulness practice specifically affected certain regulatory pathways.

This is amazing since, in the reductive materialist’s paradigm, our thoughts/urges are held to be merely products of our genes, and of our brain, of which a ‘person’, which is an illusory entity in a materialists worldview anyway, supposedly has no control.

This following video, although the girl in the video was written off as hopelessly retarded by everyone who saw her, reveals that there was/is indeed a gentle intelligence, a “me”, a “soul’, within the girl that was/is trapped within her body. And that that “me” was/is unable to express herself properly to others because of her neurological disorder.

Case 3: murder mystery involving donor is solved by an organ recipient
An eight year-old girl, who received the heart of a murdered ten year-old girl, began having recurring vivid nightmares about the murder. Her mother arranged a consultation with a psychiatrist who after several sessions concluded that she was witnessing actual physical incidents. They decided to call the police who used the detailed descriptions of the murder (the time, the weapon, the place, the clothes he wore, what the little girl he killed had said to him) given by the little girl to find and convict the man in question (2).
