Often, the only way to get to the top of a hill is a twisty trail that goes here and there, sometimes sideways, sometimes seemingly the wrong way. The reason for this is that there are obstacles in front of you that cannot be overcome directly. That huge rock is not moving anytime soon, and you can’t go through it.
Such is the daily experience of the Pro-Lifer. Our opponents, who regard the killing of a child in the womb as a kind of sacrament, have nothing to offer by way of reasonable or intellectual positions. They are governed by emotional states like, “Mine!” or arbitrary appeals to authority like “It’s Legal!” or shallow manipulations like “I’m the victim!”, among many other throw-it-against-the-wall kind of defenses. They present themselves as impervious, intolerant, and immune to information that shows them to be in error. They are rock wall obstacles who perpetually defend the indefensible.
This year, maybe the path around is to ask a Pro-Choicer, “when did YOUR life begin?” Perhaps guiding them into some follow-up questions like, “who were the people who cared for YOU… *BEFORE* you were born?” and “what were YOU like when YOU first came to be?”
Even rock walls aren’t forever.
