Video, here:
My regret is that it was not a Congressional Medal of Honour with a joint, simultaneous award of a Victoria Cross (he, being “of Cornish crew”). He earned recognition for gallant courage in battle far above and beyond any call of mere duty. END
US Pres Trump presents a posthumous Presidential Citizens Medal to Col Rick Rescorla
For once, we are in complete agreement.
It was said of RickRescorla,
“for Rick, this was a natural way to die“
What an epitaph for any man.
The death of Philip Johnson, and award to Rick Rescorla, call to my mind a line from the play, “The fire on the snow” by Douglas Stewart.
“The man of action,
shall have satisfaction,
The man of peace,
a leaf’s release.”
Since he was retired, the Medal of Honor could not be bestowed upon this hero. The highest medal he could have received is the Presidential Citizens Medal.
BR, I hear you but doubtless there is a workaround. My main point was that this action was worthy of both medals. KF
The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. This great honor should never be given to anyone that does not fit the definition.

BR, yes, I do believe that the Col was just that, albeit retired. I think a reasonable case can be made that he was implicitly called up by the attack. The courage is not in doubt. Nor, on the other side is the for valour; he being of Cornish crew.. KF
