In this wide-ranging conversation, they discuss how the doctrine of creation makes sense of human dignity, racial equality, true peace and justice, purpose and meaning in life, and more. They also consider recent debates over the historicity of Adam and Eve.

And the charge that ID was religious, and specifically Christian, was laid to rest at Dover.
Joke- ID still doesn't have anything to do with religion. ID doesn't say anything about who to worship. ID doesn't say anything about how to worship. ID doesn't say anything about when and where to worship. Only complete morons on an agenda say that ID is religious.ET

D_f_O @19, When it became clear in mid 2005 that Judge Jones would be the presiding magistrate this was the response from the Uncommon Descent blog, at the time still the prancing place for William Dembski; Dave Scot wrote, " Judge John E. Jones on the other hand is a good old boy..." I cringe; "political buddy of Tom Ridge (who in turn in turn is deep in George W. Bushs circle of power), and finally was appointed by GW hisself." It's almost as if they expected the judge to rule using his conservative ideology, as opposed to the facts as presented. Luckily he ruled according to the facts. And this, "Unless judge Jones wants to cut his career off at the knees he isn't going to rule against the wishes of his political allies. Of course the ACLU will appeal. This won't be over until it gets to the Supreme Court. But now we own that too." What a vile way to approach the law, what a vile individual. Thank God Judge Jones was indeed a man of integrity, not the pattsy of political/religious partisan politics. As you say @19, "Judge Jones was such a paragon of virtue..." The Discovery Institute on the other hand, well, just see for yourself.rvb8

rvb8 --why is a science site even entertaining such a dialogue?-- You don't think Einstein and Godel ever had these sorts of discussions? Looking at the first page right now the majority of topics are science-oriented. The concern that many of us have is that it is certain interpretations of the Theory of Evolution have become akin to religious dogma. ID, at its simplest, is merely an observation based on what should be a non-controversial premise i.e. designed objects have quantifiable characteristics. It's not Christian, Hindu, atheist or anything theological.tribune7

D_f_O, yeah, that is exactly who Darwinists join forces with, your grab bag of bogey men. Although I have to say your knowledge of history is poor if you don't realise the strong connection between leftists, socialists and Christianity, throughout western history. Although you are correct that most evolutionary proponents are indeed atheists; I'm one, very happily:) You accuse me of, 'spiritual blindness'? I freely accept the charge, and submit everyone else is too, except of course in the meanderings of their minds. What I find fascinating is that you and many other US and UK residents actually believe they are insulting me when they accuse me of atheism. I don't run and hide, I accept it gladly. And the charge that ID was religious, and specifically Christian, was laid to rest at Dover.rvb8

Um tribune7, why is a science site even entertaining such a dialogue? And that of course is not the half of it. Tell me, by looking at archives, how many threads have devolved into theological wranglings? This is just the latest and most blatant example of a site that has clearly lost its way.rvb8

Um, rvb8, what does a question specifically asking for opinions from Christians have to do with parameters of ID?tribune7

Comments 1,2,4, and 9, particularly, are absolutely jaw droppingly astounding. For years Dembski and co have denied any specific relationship, or connection between Christianity and ID. Of course we new it was all a sham, thanks for the incontrovertable evidence. Unbelievable!rvb8

Personally, I appreciated the emphasis on the Judeo-Christian view of the dignity and equality of all humanity descended from Adam and Eve, rather than evolutionary competition between species and races. The participants seemed completely open to a variety of scientific understandings of how God created the cosmos. While their focus was on three theological implications of God's creation, I would add a fourth: the existence, origin, consequences, and remedy of evil in the world. A fifth would be the existence of our free will. -QQuerius

'Remember, man, that thou art dust, and unto dust thou shalt return' is one of the possible conjurations pronounced over Catholics, when receiving the ashes in the sign of the cross on their forehead. I've always found it strangely comforting, and not in a negative way.Axel

That Jesus is the Messiah and the Alpha and Omega. That truth is objective and universal. That forces beyond the testable exist. That there is a purpose to material existence. They would be starting points.tribune7
