Frank Turek: Why does the Bible not talk about dinosaurs?

While we are talking about the Bible anyway…

What would our ancestors have made of news of the dinosaurs? The dinosaurs made no impact on human life to which a religious teacher could point, then or now. The animals discussed in the Bible are known to the hearers; their habits are familiar and therefore useful as illustrations:

Go to the ant, you sluggard;

consider its ways and be wise!

It has no commander,

no overseer or ruler,

yet it stores its provisions in summer

and gathers its food at harvest.

So far as we know to this day, ants don’t have a “ruler” in the human sense; the queen lays the eggs that keep the colony going. They seem to know what to do apart from her.

A reader wrote privately today to say: The Bible DOES talk about dinosaurs. See the Behemoth in Job 40 and the Leviathan Job 41. Our reader evidently thinks that some dinosaurs survived the Cretaceous extinction. Well, all we'll say here is: soft tissue. News
It was men who did in the dinosaurs just as men have been responsible for the loss of many other large species in recorded history. There's no good reason to believe that unrecorded history differed markedly from recorded history. ScuzzaMan

Dragons ate the dinosaurs. Then the dragons missed the boat and died in the Flood.
Heh! The reason there are even fossils of dinosaurs is because of the flood. Noah took dinosaurs on the ark (small ones and young ones) but they didn't do well after the flood because of the change in climate. Oh my! I just realized! It was climate change did in the dinosaurs! Is there any thing that it can't do! Latemarch

Latemarch @1, With a tail like a cedar, I don't think it was an elephant, or hippo. bb
One wonders what animals were being used as "useful illustrations" in Job 40:15-24 and Job 41:1-34? Latemarch
