History student/college dropout gets award on April Fool’s day for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

From the National Center for Selling Evolutionism (NCSE) NCSE is delighted to congratulate Zack Kopplin, recently named as the winner of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology’s 2014 Howard K. Schachman Public Service Award. In a March 24, 2014, press release, Jeremy Berg, president of the ASBMB and director of the University of Pittsburgh’s Institute for Personalized Medicine, commented (PDF), “Zack has been a true champion of science education, which has become all the more important in these times where educational standards are being debated. … Zack has tirelessly fought for the teaching of evolution in classrooms.” Among Kopplin’s achievements is the launch of the campaign, now in its fourth incarnation as Senate Bill 175 (PDF), to repeal Read More ›

We are blessed you are still with us Allen MacNeill

Allen teaches biology at Cornell, one of the world’s finest academic institutions. He accepts and defends evolutionary biology, but he has also defended the rights, reputation and treatment of ID-sympathetic students. He has done so even at peril to his own standing and reputation. In 2005 the president of Cornell Condemned the Teaching of ID as science. In 2006, Allen dared to at least raise the question and at least attempt to properly argue ID is not science by putting together a class devoted to exploring the question fairly in his infamous “Evolution and Design” class, perhaps the only class of its kind to ever be hosted on an Ivy League campus. Students confided to me that they felt Allen Read More ›

Our moral and intellectual superiors ask, Can creationists be (allowed to be) scientists?

Should the world believe that people who wanted Nye to shine or just didn’t care much would go to all the trouble of studying each skull shown on the slide, as a YEC did? If McElwee has his way, it won’t just be DeWitt who isn’t (allowed to be) asking any questions. No one will be. Read More ›

“Intelligent Design is NOT Anti-Evolution” — a guest post

Good day, my name is JoeG and I would like to get something out in the open and hopefully have it become fully understood by everyone. For decades I have been debating against evolutionism and for decades I have been told that my position is “anti-evolution.” I found that strange because my position allows for a change in allele frequency over time, i.e. evolution. It also allows for natural selection, ie evolution. Speciation is OK too, i.e. evolution. Offspring are different from their parents meaning my position also allows for descent with modification, i.e. evolution. The whole point of my opponents seems to be a strawman: they want to be able to “refute” my position by showing that allele frequencies Read More ›

Thomas Nagel: “The intelligentsia was so furious [at him] that it formed a lynch mob”

So: Nagel was assailed. And almost everyone else ran. Because only real thinkers have courage. The rest are just tenurebots soaking students for money they can’t afford to get degrees that won’t help them. Read More ›
