US Prez hopeful Perry is not useful to ID?

Says political theorist John West here:

Earlier this summer, Perry’s education commissioner recommended for use supplementary science curricula that fail to offer any critical analysis of Darwinian claims, contrary to the state’s own science standards. At the same time, Perry’s education commissioner allowed his staff to spike the one proposed curriculum that did try to follow the Texas science standards.

Presumably, he thinks everyone who supports him is dumb as a post.

More on him here.

West thinks Bachmann is sincere, by contrast, based on her record in Minnesota. More on her here.

You all put too much trust in politicians. Perry will be fine if the right ideas come to dominate. Michele will fail if they don’t. Mark this well, you proud men of action: You are nothing but the unwitting agents of the men of thought who often, in quiet self-effacement, mark out most exactly all your doings in advance. –Heinrich Heinetribune7

I think Bachman is the real deal. She has referred to such authors as Michael Behe, Phillip E. Johnson, J.P. Moreland, and Charles B. Thaxton. Perry doesn't even know the difference between ID and "Creationism." Please! Because rank and file Republicans amost always get seduced by an outsider pretending to be an ousider (Dole, Bush, McCain, Perry), they will likely shunt Bachman off to the side and select another imposter on the grounds that he is not "divisive" and is, therefore, more "electable." When either Perry or Romney gets the nod and reveals their true identity, Republicans will do what they always do--weep and wail for having been so gullible, even as they prepare to make ths same mistake on the next go around.StephenB

Unfortunately what Bachmann has to do is accentuate the positives, because Perry is a long standing governor with 10 years of executive experience in just that one job. Americans elected a man with very little executive experience 2 1/2 years ago, for America's top office. This time around they are going to want the kind of leadership that comes from experience, not promises based on little. I agree that Bachmann is probably the better candidate of the two, but she has that issue to rise above. Fortunately for her she's smarter than Perry. She's also more educated where it counts - i.e., she knows what issues are in the hearts of voters. I think she might just edge Perry out in feistiness as well. Another thing she has going for her is that while she, like any other candidate makes the odd gaffe, Perry is a walking gaffe on steroids. He makes our current vice president sound like Winston Churchill. Something that might counterbalance her lack of executive experience is the fact that she is involved in grass-roots organization rather than an old-boy network. This is something that will definitely mean something in the coming election as most Americans I'm sure have absolutely no tolerance any more for politics as usual. At least not in this economy. It's difficult this early in the race to predict who has the goods for the nomination. It will be interesting to see how these factors play out in the next year.CannuckianYankee

I've lived in Texas for for over 45 years. I will only support Perry if he wins the Republican nomination. He is a politician first, everything else second, IMO. I'd much rather have Bachmann or Palin as the Republican nominee, and my support has nothing to do with their position on ID, but rather the principles they not only espouse, but have been true to in action.Meleagar
