Access Research Network (ARN) reports: The Case for a Creator DVD Available

It was in a high school science classroom that Lee Strobel became an atheist. A lecture on the Miller-Urey experiment convinced him that the origin of life, and all life for that matter, could be explained by purely naturalistic processes. Only the hard, empirical evidence of science could be trusted—and it appeared to point to a universe created by purely naturalist processes: time, chance, and Darwinian evolution.

Although science led Strobel away from a belief in a Creator, it was science that led him back. The atheistic worldview deeply influenced Strobel’s academic years and early career as an award-winning journalist for the Chicago Tribune. Then, in 1980, his wife’s conversion to Christianity led him on an intensive search for the truth about God and our beginnings. Not surprisingly, it began with science.

The Case for a Creator is the third in a series of top quality, block-buster documentaries on Intelligent Design by Illustra Media that started with Unlocking the Mystery of Life and The Privileged Planet. Based on Strobel’s popular book by the same title, the documentary leads you through one man’s journey to grapple with the scientific evidence regarding one of life’s greatest questions: How did we get here? Along the way he interviews many of the leading scientists and scholars for the intelligent design theory including Stephen C. Meyer, Michael Behe, Jay Richards, Jonathan Wells, Robin Collins, William Lane Craig, Guillermo Gonzalez, and Scott Minnich. The major topic areas of the documentary cover the fossil evidence, cosmology, astronomy, physics, biological machines and biological information. The bonus material includes additional interviews with the scientists, and special units on the origin of life and the machinery of life.

As with previous Illustra Media documentaries, this one is chock full of stunning graphics, amazing animations, and a theater-worthy soundtrack. The focus of this documentary is the scientific and philosophical evidence for design and a theistic worldview, and is suitable for use in public schools, especially when shown to balance the atheistic Darwinian worldview found in many educational scientific documentaries on the topic.

Lee Strobel, the former award-winning legal editor of The Chicago Tribune, is a New York Times best-selling author of nearly twenty books and has been interviewed on numerous national television programs, including ABC’s 20/20, Fox News, and CNN. Lee was educated at the University of Missouri (Bachelor of Journalism degree, 1974) and Yale Law School (Master of Studies in Law degree, 1979). He was a professional journalist for 14 years at The Chicago Tribune and other newspapers, winning Illinois’ top honors for investigative reporting (which he shared with a team he led) and public service journalism from United Press International

PS
Rumor has it the film will have an official debut at a massive Christian apologetics and ID conference at Mclean Bilble Church this November: Loving God With All Your Mind. It is hard to express how personally delighted I am ID is being welcomed into Christian and creationist circles. As someone who has fought alongside my comrades to get ID a hearing in Christendom, I can assure you all there have been challenges to getting ID accepted and appreciated in these circles. This is cause for celebration.

It has been my mission to teach creationists the theology-free concept of Intelligent Design. It has been my thesis that ID can prosper as a scientific enterprise in environments where ID is cherished rather than disdained by the aspiring scientists of tomorrow.

I continue to meet biology and science majors from secular schools who accept ID and reject Darwinism. It is for them that I delight to volunteer my time. Some of these young students were involved in organizing this conference which will air this new Illustra Media blockbuster.

Regarding the study of ID by creationists, it is like the study of any science by a student of science. I had already accepted that the fundamental tenets of chemistry, math, and physics were correct and true. Did that discourage my desire to spend time studying the subjects because I already accepted them as true? Absolutely not. Rather, because it was true, I felt it was worthy of my time to learn the subjects..... From an operational standpoint, ID is the correct paradigm for scientific and medical advances in the understanding of biology. The design paradigm is already the defacto way of looking at systems biology though the proponents like Kirschner can only admit it unwittingly.scordova

Hey, wait a minute. I thought ID was merely creationism in disguise! Isn't that what the NDE annointees have been saying. Why, it is all a conspiracy. So, naturally the creationists are already in on the plot, secret handshake and all, right? Oh, so creationists need to be convinced as well? Hmm. Is this not proof that the roots of ID are not what the critics have been postulating all along? Oh yes, the truth has a way of making itself known, but only to those who are interested.Ekstasis

It is not really necessary since creationists have been using the design arguement for decades, prior to the emergence of modern day ID scientific theory. However, you might be sucessful in "teaching" theology free ID to non-creationists and non-Christians. Secondly, in which enviroment do you plan on teaching theology free ID ?Mats

I believe it is important to have such kind of materials available, because the traditional media is full of "evolution as a fact" dogma. On my cable TV I can see National Geographic, Animal Planet, Discovery Science, Civilization & other similar stuff. I don't believe those channels are 100% devoted in presenting to the public the scientific truth. They only serve odes to TOE, when they are talking about origin of life & universe... No other kind of approach was ever aired...Sladjo

And on a tangent, the etymology of "hip" can be traced to Hierosolyma Est Perdita i.e. "Jerusalem is destroyed" which is why we shouldn't trust fashion.tribune7

Cool! Well Sal, I wish you luck on teaching theology free ID to creationsits. I found that "intelligent design" has so many preconceived notions as I'm sure you are aware of that even for myself, it took me a long time to actually figure out what it is. Surprising how much you have to unlearn about ID and relearn, particularily to folks like me the Young Earth crowd. One thing I can say that might help is don't say "Bible free" or "Theology free" without really really really explaining what that means, b/c most of the time Christians hear "Bible free" its from people who aren't so friendly to us ie NCSE, ACLU, etc. There are just way too many connotations and interpertations of what "Bible/Theology free" means. Good Luck :)jpark320
