Brit leftist publication calls placenta a “marvel”

Spread the love

From, of all sources, New Statesman:

Questionable medical applications aside, the placenta is a marvel. You wouldn’t be here without it. Although scientists have been trying for decades to create artificial versions, they have failed miserably. Nothing we can engineer has come close to replicating the placenta’s ability to act as the kidney, lungs, hormone source, nutrition channel and waste disposal unit for a growing foetus.

That said, not all placentas are created equal. And yet we have no scientific definition of the ideal placenta, which makes it very hard to diagnose a faulty one. Placentas that have nurtured babies who have been born weak or sick often look entirely normal. Abnormal-looking placentas are frequently associated with healthy babies. The devil, it seems, is in the detail.

Sounds like the design of life to some of us.

The story is Darwin grovel-free.

Don’t get it. Engineers can’t create something so simple, that was the product of a cosmic fluke? Oh, well, too bad. Seems like those engineers don’t understand ‘n-D evo’ yet 😉

What I don’t understand us why our current inability to replicate something is proof of ID. But what I do understand is that if we are able to replicate a functioning placenta, the ID crowd will use this as an argument for ID. It must be nice to have a position that you win either way.

Since the placenta is created by the foetus, maybe the best analogy would be to compare the foetus to a parasite. It meets all of the requirements of an ideal parasite. It obtains nutrients from the host. It affects the behaviour of the host to its own benefit. It does not kill the host.

    As they should.

Atheists/materialists are the “parasites.” It’s obvious why they are the most distrusted group on the planet.

They called it a marvel, therefore design, lol!

Humans haven’t yet created a placenta, therefore design!
Humans haven’t yet created a grand canyon, therefore grand canyon is designed?
Humans haven’t yet created a volcano, therefore volcanoes are designed?

ID – The Future, wow what reasoning!

I appreciate you jumped into the discussion for me.

    BTW, regarding this statement:
“It must be nice to have a position that you win either way”

Yes, agree. I’m eternally thankful for belonging to the ultimate winner, even though I don’t deserve it at all. Regardless of any temporary hardship, even humiliation, we know Who wins at the end of this age of grace we are in now. It is written. It’s the promise of the loving Creator who made us and everything. Rejoice and sing hallelujah! Pray for the lost, so they too will rejoice someday.
    🙂
