A Teacher Failed This Person

Steve Rueland writes More of What We’re Up Against. Unfortunately Steve fails to assign the proper blame here. What he’s up against is a high school science teacher that failed to teach the letter writer the basic laws of physics. These are your schools, Steve. We’re trying to wrest control of the science curriculum from your ilk for failures of exactly this kind. You cannot call fairy stories of time and chance being able to create life and all living things “science” and then expect the same students to believe real physical science. Once they know science teachers tell fairy stories and pretend they’re as factual as gravity they lose all trust in science teachers. We can spoonfeed this stuff to you, Stevey, if you’d stop making faces and spitting it out.

What *WE* Are Up Against!

Final Update: I found one press report saying Waggoner did indeed send a letter of apology. I’m not sure why news.google.com didn’t return this story. Regular google.com did. That’s good enough for me. Waggoner is off the hook as far as I’m concerned. However, in this press report the superintendent says the reason she was placed on paid leave beginning 1/31/06 had nothing to do with the parental complaints. It appears Mark Young had no reason to complain about the parents after all and neither did I have reason to complain about Waggoner.

Biologists Are Not Design Experts

Biologists are not design experts. In fact no scientists are design experts. Engineers are design experts. The crew at Panda’s Thumb ought to follow their own advice and step aside where they have no expertise. Complex specified information is digitally encoded along the spine of the DNA molecule. Are biologists information experts? Nope. Information science is a branch of mathematics. Evolutionary biologists should stick to putting the phylogenetic tree in the proper order. Lord knows they still have their work cut out for them with just that.

Things Biologists Won’t Talk About in Public

In Academic, Heal Thyself we find more evidence of what happens when truth confronts ideology in academia. While many issues are rumored to have played a role in Mr. Summers’s resignation (including charges of favoritism in a messy legal case involving foreign investments), the controversy that will inevitably symbolize his presidency was the manufactured outcry early last year over his glancing reference at a conference to possible innate differences between the sexes in aptitude for science and math. The feminist pressure groups rose en masse from their lavishly feathered nests and set up a furious cackle that led to a 218-to-185 vote of no confidence by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences last March. Instead of welcoming this golden opportunity Read More ›

Steve Reuland and Junk Science

Panda’s Thumb Steve Reuland points to this junk science article The Origin of the Nucleus to highlight his ignorance of recent discoveries in experimental biology.

Elsewhere on PT Steve implied he was too good and wouldn’t waste his valuable time participating in the Nuclear Evolution Debate. His inability to spot the junk science in the first paragraph of the article he hypes speaks to contrary reasons why he declined the invitation.

Confusion about 2LoT in regard to heat and information

A number of people conflate heat entropy with information entropy and then willy-nilly substitute one for the other. This is what the NeoDarwinists do when they point to the sun and say it makes the earth an open system to explain the evident way life violates information entropy. The sun is irrevelevant in this siutation as it is adding heat, not information. While heat and information entropy are closely related (they both behave according to 2LoT which was originally formulated for heat alone) they are not the same thing and cannot be exchanged. Heat diffuses in a closed system until maximum entropy is reached where the heat is uniform (everything is the same temperature). Likewise a dye will diffuse through Read More ›

Avian Flu – Predictions?

What does the theory of Natural Selection (the most well tested theory in science) predict about Avian Flu? Anything at all practical that isn’t obvious from simple observations of past flu behavior? Don’t hold your breath. The most well tested theory in science is also the most useless theory in science. ID predicts that no matter how many times the Avian Flu virus mutates it will remain a virus because for it to become more than a virus requires the addition of CSI and there is no mechanism capable of generating CSI in a flu virus. 😛

Good Reading List from Dave Pierre

Dave Pierre, in blogging about the Los Angeles Times’ continual strawman bashing of ID, posts a great reading list at the bottom of the article. Wesley Elsberry Says Liar liar pants on fire to OSC

Wesley Elsberry, when confronted with the following quote from the letter of the federal Office of Special Counsel to Rick Sternberg: Our investigation shows that NCSE is a political advocacy organization dedicated to defeating any introduction of ID, creationism or religion into the American education system. In fact, members of NCSE worked closely with SI and NMNH members in outlining a strategy to have you investigated and discredited within the SI. accuses the OSC of telling whoppers. When PicoFarad asks why Wesley doesn’t simply publish the emails between NCSE and SI he comes back with I see that “PicoFarad” rejects the part of US jurisprudence that holds that parties are considered innocent until proven guilty. I’m not surprised. Uh, right. Read More ›

New Evidence Supports Natural Selection

The most tested theory in science – Natural Selection – has new and improved evidence to support it says Pim Van Meurs on Panda’s Thumb. Excuse me, but haven’t the NeoDarwinian dogmatists been saying for years that Natural Selection is as well tested as the theory of gravity? Do we hear headlines like New Evidence Supports Theory of Gravity or New Evidence Shows Things Don’t Fall Up? ROFL Who are these clowns trying to fool? 🙂

(Culture War) The Final Rout of the Left Has Begun

South Dakota just passed a law making abortion a felony except in case of medical emergency. It’s now just a matter for the governor to sign it which everyone expects him to do. The law is designed to force the Supreme Court to reconsider Roe v. Wade. The present Supreme Court is unlikely to hold up Roe v. Wade which is based on a made up out of whole cloth (mythical) constitutional guarantee of privacy. It will become again a matter for states to decide for themselves. This is as it should be. A bunch of politicians or judges in Washington have no business defining the moral standards that the good and free people of South Dakota or any other state must live with. Legislated moral values not explicitely enumerated in the constitution are simply something the federal government has no business dictating to the states.
