Does anyone take their fabrications seriously? Basically, for this to be the case, people needed to take Colbert seriously enough to start trash-talking Hollywood studios for glorifying wrist violence. As this hasn't happened to my knowledge, it's different. Satire with "satire" effectively stamped on it clearly isn't fraud. Satire that prompts, for instance, Patrick to start rambling with a straight face about the virtues and detriments of genetic algorithms needs to prove itself or it's fraud.Bugsy

Bugsy, are you also concerned about all the people being deceived by "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" and outraged by all the interest and viewership they generate?russ

If you read the comments here, and in the prior thread about the slide, you'll find many people taking them seriously. The Onion does not present itself as real news except in the most utterly superficial way.Bugsy

Your “genetic algorithm” jokes aren’t funny, and presenting them as real news to generate interest and site hits makes you look like a lying tool.
Do you object to sites like www.theonion.com and www.scrappleface.com? Are these sites also the products of "lying tools"? Do they not have parody in your country?russ

Tools imply tool makers. I guess I don't understand how this is relevant to the design inference except that if i saw that toilet paper in the place where toilet paper usually hangs, I would infer that an intelligent agent had placed it there.Solon

Ha ha! This is very funny! I'm new here (advocate of classical Neoplatonist design - not a Christian, hope that's not a problem!). So forgive me if I'm missing something here. I read this post as a (very funny!) joke. But I was confused by the comments. IrishFather412 wrote:

This seems to imply that the picture demonstrates something. Patrick then replied:
Evolutionary/genetic algorithms should be viewed as just as another tool in an engineer’s toolset. If it makes sense to use the tool in a particular scenario then use it. Obviously they have to be properly designed in order to get a result within the design parameters.
Huh? So this is the result of a real genetic algorithm??!! If so, can you post the code for us examine more closely? Again, sorry if I'm being obtuse!PlatosPlaything

This is so funny! I love the slow down slide too. Whoever this Galapagos Finch is really makes me laugh.
