Julian Savulescu’s recent comments suggesting that parents have a “moral obligation to select ethically better children” were more than just another move in the on-going eugenics revival. The Oxford professor’s misrepresentation of the science, and castigation of opponents, was another entry in the growing list of uses of evolution’s Warfare Thesis which is at the heart of today’s culture wars. Born again, would not that teleportation of photons via their evanescence and reapparition elsewhere, not by a translation of their material manifestation but of their essential nature as information, constitute definitive proof of 'immaterialism'? Also, the personalisation of the speed of light to always remain absolute to the Observer, where measurable by a stationary Observer, or when it is travelling at a constant speed in the same direction, manifestly predicates theism. It seems to me that, while mere 'mind over matter' is such small beer' to the materialists, in destroying materialism, the empirical establishment that teleportation occurs in informational form, together with the latest research on Holy Shroud and the Sudarium, should play a pivotal role in salvation history. One of his PhD students, now a professor at Oxford, Julian Savulescu, is leaving him in the dust. While Singer is famed for supporting animal liberation, infanticide, euthanasia, and so on, Savulescu has broken new ground. A youthful 44, he has been at Oxford since 2002 as the head of something called the Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics. His postal address may be an ivory tower but he gets down and dirty with “practical ethics”. He argues trenchantly for performance enhancing drugs in sport, genetic screening, early abortion, late-term abortion, sex-selective abortion, embryonic stem cell research, hybrid embryos, saviour siblings, therapeutic cloning, reproductive cloning, genetic engineering of children for higher IQs, eugenics, and organ markets. The codeword here is “denier,” as in Holocaust denier.
As an desultory Wikipedia editor, I got into a wrangle over an Denialism edit I made. Later, the broader issue was discussed here. The effort was in vain, however, in that the present article has no discussion at all of the word's use in polemics as a pejorative.
