. . . and of course, the long subversive march through the institutions that dominate culture.

As in, we need to understand some of why a self-falsifying and inherently amoral ideology of evolutionary materialistic scientism has so much traction in our day, and why so many bizarre agendas are being pushed so hard by the narrative shapers, manipulators and spin doctors working in the information battle-space, to what effect. Let us never forget that if we are led to judge the true and straight by the false and crooked, we will unavoidably end up in conflict with reality; to our detriment.

(And yes, this follows up on the current Wikileaks revelations about the long term manipulation of the public through the media, education, agit prop and more, drastically undermining the stability of our civilisation, especially democratic self-government by a free,well-informed, soundly thinking people.)

H’mm, “long subversive march through the institutions . . . ”  rings a bell right off, and that brings back up the seven mountains/ gate-ways/ spheres of influence that are the commanding heights of community:

seven_mountains_culture_agenda

So, too, it brings up the change issue that our current objectors are ever so eager to duck, a march of folly over a cliff:

change_chall

We need to ask some pointed questions on what has been going on for a long time, given the lesson of Acts 27 on how Mr Moneybags and his bought and paid for technicos can manipulate us into marches of ruinous folly.

Not to mention, why is it that by and large we — our whole civilisation — are not keyed in on our geostrategic peril as a top priority item:

geostrat-pic

Didn’t former media darling and the last leader of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, now 85, just come out of retirement to warn us about three pivotal issues that we should focus on?

As in:

“I think the world has reached a dangerous point,” Gorbachev, 85, told state news agency RIA Novosti . . . .

“It is necessary to return to the main priorities. These are nuclear disarmament, the fight against terrorism, the prevention of an environmental disaster,” he said.

“Compared to these challenges, all the rest slips into the background.”

So, why are these NOT the top headline issues?

Where of course, the first two — Islam-IST terrorism and nukes — are directly tied together, especially now that the USA seems to have paid the Mullahs up to US$ 1.7 billions in cash [yes, three plane-loads it seems], effectively as ransom and given the global geostrategic picture. For the third, I suggest we would be well advised to think of “environment” as “surroundings” that we interact with, involving three inextricably intertwined domains: the bio-physical/ natural, the socio-cultural and the econ-policy. With those adjustments, I agree with Mr Gorbachev.

Where also, political and policy decisions are effectively made “downstream” of where society and culture are, especially as filtered through dominant media narratives. So, if we are to survive and thrive in a highly adverse situation, we need to understand how our civilisation is being ruthlessly manipulated.

Okay, here is an eye-opener documentary hosted by Lind:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_w0TOJspijA

(He has a lecture from 1998 here, there is an interesting article here, and this may also help.)

It seems to me that a sober-minded assessment of where we are and where we are heading in light of key trends in the world just does not seem to grab attention or tickle our itching ears.

But in the end reality, not shadow shows, will prevail.

Speaking of, here is that Plato’s Cave video animation again (for those who don’t want to read — itself, a very bad sign):

Now, let us think together about our civilisation, its trends and what we need to do. Before, it is too late to avert going over the cliff. END

EDTA, notice Sophia, who gives a model. Compare, what it took to break slavery in the British Empire. One converted man and a small circle who stood with him; forming a surprisingly small critical mass. He spoke, they smeared. He spoke and moved, they smeared and voted down. He spoke year after year, eventually they could no more deny, so they delayed. Then even delay failed. By the time his life came to an end, he was a national hero and sponsor of seventy or so movements of reform energised by godly principles. If you want more, I have put on the table that we need a complementary Associate programme, with emphasis on reform-oriented prophetic discipleship-based Christian service and leadership, using web techs and the vast network of churches as micro campus centres. Tentmaking skills starting with digital tech, too. Build a broad base. Reach back down to the primary and secondary levels. Build thinktanks that can do what the Frankfurt school did -- address the seven mountains of influence at top level with scholarship and outreach that provides leadership, only, for the good. (UD is a germ cell for one such -- part of why we are hated.) Influence by service, life, witness, sound citizenship and leadership. Let God snowball the four R's as he has promised -- his weakness is infinitely stronger than our strength. A morally bankrupt civilisation will either wake up and turn back, or else it is going to need help after falling over the cliff and breaking its back (as is so with my native land and my adoptive land: the one is 40 years in, the other, 20). Of course, in a web era, the censors can no longer utterly lock out our voices, though obviously they try to smear and discredit. We must speak up prophetically, consistently. (Cf. a comment here and read the critical analysis of the "Catholic spring" agit prop suggestion by Pecknold that is linked just above it.) Read also, Ac 27 (cf here); Paul needed to speak up before the storm to be the good man in the storm. KFkairosfocus

KF, >Is it not time to stand? >If not now, then when? >If not here, then where? >If not us, then who? I agree, but just want to ask this additional question: "If us, then how?" Reason I ask is that as an individual, my influence is too small to be heard. In groups, my influence is lost, because leaders skim off the money and fail to have the influence they should. Or if sincere, they are unable to be heard because we do not control the media. Unless you have a means by which we can disproportionately amplify our influence, then it seems to me that we are simply being carried along by the torrent of history to our ultimate collective downfall.EDTA

Sev, Lessee, from the direction of Khorasan, there shall arise an army of the black flags and Mahdi shall be among them; if you must crawl across ice and snow, join the all conquering army. It subjugates the ME and from a ME base Mahdi (the last Caliph) shall dominate the whole world to the E and the W. Somewhere in there the gharqad tree massacre of Jews written into the Hamas covenant is to happen. There is the Mahdi's sidekick, prophet Isa who is to destroy all pigs, break all crosses and convert all Christians (presumably, at sword point). And so forth. Is that what you really think the Christian faith and gospel (including the Lordship of the Risen Christ) are about in some weird mirror-image of the hadiths I just summarised? That's a ridiculous strawman caricature. Contrast, Daniel's revelation of Nebuchadnezzar's dream:
Dan 2:31 “You saw, O king, and behold, a great image. This image, mighty and of exceeding brightness, stood before you, and its appearance was frightening. 32 The head of this image was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its middle and thighs of bronze, 33 its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay. 34 As you looked, a stone was cut out by no human hand, and it struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. 35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold, all together were broken in pieces, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. 36 “This was the dream. Now we will tell the king its interpretation. 37 You, O king, the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, and the might, and the glory, 38 and into whose hand he has given, wherever they dwell, the children of man, the beasts of the field, and the birds of the heavens, making you rule over them all—you are the head of gold. 39 Another kingdom inferior to you shall arise after you, and yet a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth. 40 And there shall be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron, because iron breaks to pieces and shatters all things. And like iron that crushes, it shall break and crush all these. 41 And as you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter's clay and partly of iron, it shall be a divided kingdom, but some of the firmness of iron shall be in it, just as you saw iron mixed with the soft clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly iron and partly clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly brittle. 43 As you saw the iron mixed with soft clay, so they will mix with one another in marriage,[c] but they will not hold together, just as iron does not mix with clay. 44 And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever, 45 just as you saw that a stone was cut from a mountain by no human hand, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold. A great God has made known to the king what shall be after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation sure.”
The dominant and domineering kingdoms of man wax and wane in dreary succession, eventually becoming a strange mix of iron and clay -- patently, Rome and its heirs in the W and the E in a strange disunity. At that time, God shatters WITHOUT HUMAN HANDS and establishes his own eternal rule. Messiah is the first shock-wave of that shattering, and the church is called to peaceful witness to the nations about the gospel, calling us to repentance, renewal, revival, reformation, thus also salvation, discipleship, blessing and transformation from the heart in accord with the ethics of the Sermon on the Mount. Where men and nations have a choice and a responsibility as to what they will do with that Messiah, of whom Paul spoke:
Ac 17:30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, 31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”
In short, your strawman caricature/ conflation of chalk with cheese manifestly fails. Fails, in a way that is revealing, especially given the significance of the central evil of our time, the worst holocaust in history of 800+ millions of our own posterity put to death under false colour of law and reflecting the moral bankruptcy and corruption of the key institutions of influence in society. And yes, it is entirely apt to use the seven mountains model to see these key spheres of influence together and to highlight that a community at a given time will have a dominant worldview and cultural agenda. In the mostly apostate West at this time, in the main, evolutionary materialistic scientism and linked secular humanism. Which, is manifestly both self-falsifying and utterly amoral. As Plato warned of so long ago in The Laws Bk X: "the highest right is might." And so, the call goes forth from Sophia (a lovely Jewish girl, obviously) in grim warning. She has gone to the streets and markets, she has stood on the city walls to herald her speech. Now, she stands in the gates where the elders and wheeler-dealers sit, the decision making and influencing classes. She has somewhat to say to a city gone amiss at the hands of naive and foolish leadership, inclined to mock rather than listen to correction. She announces the iron judgement of the consequences of a ruinous march of folly:
Prov 1: 20 Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; 21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks: 22 “How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge? 23 If you turn at my reproof,[a] behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you. 24 Because I have called and you refused to listen, have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded, 25 because you have ignored all my counsel and would have none of my reproof, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when terror strikes you, 27 when terror strikes you like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you. 28 Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but will not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, 30 would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, 31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices. 32 For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them; 33 but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.”
This, sadly, is the story (and likely fate) of our willfully foolish civilisation today. Enough of strawman caricatures and distractive, dismissive rhetoric. Our civilisation is in peril due to a march of willful, apostate folly and we had better wake up and turn back fast, before the cliff's edge gives way underfoot. If we have two sensible neurons left to rub against one another. Sophia has spoken. KFkairosfocus

Regarding Dominionism . . argh! What is it about Jesus telling his disciples
“My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place." - John 18:36 (NIV)
that some people don't get? Why is this so hard to understand? Does one need an advanced degree in theology to understand that Jesus said: My . . . kingdom . . . is . . . not . . . of . . . this . . . world. Read His lips. The words are all one syllable long except for "kingdom," which consists of king and domain (Old English). This world and its struggles, ambitions, greed, lust for power, subversion, lies, murders, hatreds, slanders, oppressions, abuses, corruptions, arrogance, robberies, collusions, perversions, and brutalities is ALL going to hell in a hand basket. Jesus made it possible to escape the judgment to come to anyone who is willing to be saved. He didn't command Christians to control the world, make it peaceful, or to punish sin, but to save individuals from it all--to set them free from this slavery. Judgment is reserved for God alone:
And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward Your bond-servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.” - Revelation 11:18 (NASB)
This is authentic Christianity. -QQuerius

Here is a recent article, by a PhD student (classics, history, and literature) named Moses Apostaticus, which does an excellent job briefly describing the history and cultural influence of the so-called Frankfurt school of Marxism:
Marxism is always cloaked in high-sounding utopian rhetoric. This is a ruse. What cultural Marxists seek has nothing to do with true diversity, social harmony or universal tolerance. They don’t want the races getting along. They seek power. The solution for the perceived injustices that Cultural Marxists have manufactured is radical social engineering. The power to carry out this social engineering must be given, of course, to a politically-correct elite determined to remake society along ideological lines. This is why cultural Marxists always seek to enter government, academe or influential positions in the media. In the process of remaking society, unsurprisingly, these Cultural Marxists gain enormous wealth, status and power. This is how careers and fortunes are made in the industry of grievance. It is also why Marxism is so appealing to the ambitious and unscrupulous.

The truth about free speech movement: it wasn’t about free speech; it was about using dirty words. It was an attack the sensibilities of people who adhere to traditional values. I can guarantee you that some of the same people who were advocating “free speech” in the 1960’s as students are now backing politically correct speech codes as tenured professors. But, of course their students are still free to use dirty words. The so-called social agenda (issues concerning race, class, gender etc.) of secular progressive left is not really about solving problems; it’s about using these things to gain power and dominate society. In other words, these are wedge issues designed to provoke dissent, not really address the issues, which are indeed legitimate issues. That’s why exploiting them can be so powerful.john_a_designer
